I'm new to this forum but not to the Labrador retriever breed. My yellow lab Jake crossed over the Rainbow Bridge 1 1/2 years ago. I've put a deposit down on a yellow lab puppy but have come across what I think would be considered a "Dudley Lab". The puppy has blue eyes (not brown) and a liver colored nose. Is anyone familiar with this type lab? I'm more concerned about health issues then appearance.

Welcome to the forum from me, Hattie 9 years and rescue boy Charlie 6 years, we live in Hampshire, UK.

I'm so very sorry your lost lovely Jake :( I'm not sure what a Dudley Lab is but I think this was discussed only this week, perhaps someone could find the link as I can't remember what it was under? I hope it all works out with your new puppy. :) x

Hello and welcome to the forum. The term "dudley" just means that the yellow Lab doesn't have the normal black pigment gene, and have a liver (chocolate) gene instead. As far as I'm aware, this isn't associated with any health issues, as it's perfectly normal Labrador genes, just a combination that is generally not bred for, as it's not considered "desirable".
The blue eyes may change to brown in time, as most young puppies have blue eyes.
When is your puppy ready for collection? It's an exciting time and, assuming you're not interested in showing, then I think having something slightly different just makes it more interesting :)

Hello, I'm scheduled to pick "Finn" up on the 7Jan. I'm excited yet hesitant due to the unknown. We had our first yellow lab for 13 1/2 years. He was the best. We still miss him terribly. Thank you for the link, I'll go check it out. Hey to Mags, Tatze and Mollie.

Hi and welcome from me and 3 year old girl, Harley.
My friend at agility has a chocolate lab who has one brown eye and one blue eye. Apart from looking very distinguished she has no health problems.

Hi...due to expected weather in North Carolina, I will be going today to pick up Finn. I really have mixed emotions since I will be picking up a Dudley Labrador. I've researched and know that it's just a pigmentation issue. I guess my concern is that the owner withheld the information from me and when I made a comment on the Dudley he didn't respond. Oh well, wish me luck. Fred and Annie are beautiful.

Don't give this another thought. It doesn't matter, not one little bit. The only reason it would matter is if you wanted to show the dog.

There are just stacks of yellow Labs with brown (liver) pigmentation around, so many it sort of looks normal!

Don't let it interfere with the joy of getting your puppy.

Charlie's eyes were blue/green until he was about 3 months old, then they turned brown. But you'll love your pup whatever colour of eyes he has!
