    Hi everyone,

Meg and I are off on holiday 4 weeks on Saturday. It's a long drive about 4 - 5 hours. Meg has never liked the car from when she was a puppy. We took her to lovely places locally thinking she'd soon settle but never did. When hubs was alive I used to sit in back with her but of course can't do that now. She pants heavily, trembles and hardly moves. She's certainly not relaxed. I do a lot of stops to break the journey up for her and she's ok when she gets out of the car.

Anyway yesterday took her to vets to get nails clipped and I asked our vet if there was anything else we could try but not sedation. I've tried everything I can think of. Our vet suggested zylkene. Meg has to start it 15 days before we go and Julies given me enough for the holiday and return journey as well. Just wondering if any of you have tried it and what your opinions are.

We used to use it on a number of dogs in the kennels. To be honest I didn't see it have any effect at all on them but that may just have been because kennels was a too high stressor and the zkylkene just couldn't deal with the stress levels. Also it is supposed to have a better effect if started beforehand which obviously you can't do with dogs that go into kennels.

I'd be interested to hear if you find it works for you. Good luck!

Hoping it works, but one I did try for one of my past dogs was from Dorwest Herbs , skullcap and valerian tablets , this dog was a rescue and very anxious, seemed to work :)

Interesting about the Dorwest herbs Kate. I've checked and if need be meg can have the two together. Will try her just on zylkene and if necessary she can have Dorwest. Although I presume you have to start them the same way as zylkene. Poor thing she has 7 tablets a day now. Still she has them wrapped in pate and doesn't complain. :) Think what I'll do is give her the zylkene and if they don't work will start her on Dorwest while we're down there ready for when we come home. Thanks for your help. Lauren will let you know if they work.

Sorry Jen only just seen this.

I use calm down herbs from CSJ. Like the zylkene it can take two to three weeks to have effect and the jury is still out as to whether it works. Having said that when I took them off it a few weeks ago after 12 months it coincided with something upsetting the dogs in the night. Scout was very nervy for a few days so I put them back on the herbs and he is back to normal. Could be a coincidence though. ::)

I'd be interested in how well you think the zylkene works. I'm always interested in anything that might help my two with their nerves. :-\

Hi Jen, I've tried mostly everything on the market, the diffusers, collar, kalm aid, bachs rescue and others. Will certainly let you know if they work. Am keeping my fingers crossed they do.
