I would check with your vet if you have any doubt at all. Discharge is not good - my vet was surprised that Harley had pyometra at 1 year old and said that was really young, but I really do urge you to get Maisie checked just incase x

I would have the vet check - it could be vaginitis, and it could be crystals in her urine.....or it could be nothing at all - but without checking, you have no way to know for sure. My Bella is nearly 6 months and we've been fighting with struvite crystals for months - crusties on her vulva is one of her symptoms....

Hope it's not that with your Maisie...but better to be checked than not.

Dont know if i should be worried about Maisie. Before her op, she had become abit more overwhelmed by certain things and seemed to get frustrated quite a lot, luckily the trainer at puppy class is an excellent behaviourist and we talked about this and decided it could have been due to her eye bothering her and so not feeling 100%. Anyway, since shes had her cone on i havent been introducing her to other dogs as we were concerned that this would make her feel more overwhelmed etc but shes been wearing the cone for so long and i am worried its effecting her socialising. Since the op she has been also scared of her collar and harness, she trys to hide and cowers away and when i put her harness on she goes all limp, i have been doing some desensitisation but even once its on she is reluctant to move. Early i took her for a walk round the block which she knows well, and she freaked out and went all skittish for no reason. I decided to take her cone off and carry it to see if she was better without it, which she was, but she still wasnt hugely confident. But then Murphy was always an overly confident pup so maybe I am just comparing the 2.
I just dont know whether to be overly worried about this, i dont want her to grow up to be really nervous, its such a shame her eye has effected her like this :( i have a 121 with the trainer tomorrow to catch up from the session she missed straight after her op so at least I can chat to her at length about it tomorrow. And we are doing it at home,so she can see maisies reaction to collar and harness first hand. Im also a little concerned at the way she plays with Murphy, quite often wrinkling her nose and biting him till he squeals and I end up splitting them up. He is too nice and doesnt tell her off. She is also so vocal! Especially when she plays. I guess this is all just normal puppy behaviour and I didnt see it so much with murphy because he didnt have a dog at home to play with. She also seems to get frustrated and just suddenly barks and then bites! Its rather annoying! But i guess its all just normal puppy behaviour? Shes 15 weeks now.

Ah, Frankie, what a worry. I'm so glad you have a supportive trainer. For sure, she's been through the wars, but she is still so young so hopefully you can get her back on track.

Charlie did this with his harness - he still pretty much hates it, but will tolerate it as a necessary evil these days. I use it rarely though. No amount of desensitisation worked. It was like the pressure around his body "closed him down". It just got worse and worse.

Eventually, I resorted to taking him out on his collar, getting him out of the car, walking for a bit on lead, putting his harness on and letting him off lead. So he associated his harness with the biggest reward of the day. He now only wears his harness in super exciting circumstances (when he might otherwise hurt himself), and over time, he has got better. But I weigh up the effect on him, with the benefits of him wearing it every time I use it. He still cowers away from it when it first goes on, but because he is usually doing something like watching retrieving, he seems to forget about it quite quickly.

Thank you julie that makes me feel better. Anna the trainer suggested i try a harness that goes over her head, rather than the onei v got where she needs to step into it, which means i end up lifting her paws up etc, and so she suggested she might associate the harness with being manhandled and with all the poking an dprodding she has had at the vets she probably doesnt like it,so im going to look out for one :) thank you

mmm....I had loads of people tell me similar....6 different harness later, and I concluded that it is simply the constriction of the harness that he hates. I think a lot of (positive pet) trainers found it very hard to accept that a dog could find a harness unpleasant - for surely they are always so much better than a collar. But I honestly believe it is as simple as that for Charlie. I think Debsie found a similar thing with Cuillin, and the thunder shirt has exactly the same effect on her.

Much as I hate traditional slip leads, there is no doubt that Charlie is happiest with no collar, no harness, and a (limited) slip lead hanging very loosely round his neck. Thankfully, these days, he walks well enough to enjoy that time to time (on private land).

Yea i can understand that. Her current harness is nearly too small for her anyway, so i need to get her another one for now as when she does go crazy on the lead i dont want her to damage her neck, but i suspect she will djust prefer to not have one. I am going to try what you said about putting on her harness just before she goes off lead so she associates it with nice things and see how that goes :)

Good luck with it, lots of dogs are perfectly happy in harnesses, so I think they do work for most dogs, of course.
