Puppy classes have finished and I must admit I'm at a loss at what to do. We are still working on the basics: sit, lie down, wait, on your bed, roll over (this has come in particularly hand at the moment because he has a staph infection on his belly and he rolls over nicely for his treatment) sit and wait at the door before a walk, sit for please and recently we have learned fetch and drop although this only works in the house or garden when I have a clicker in my hand other wise it's fetch and tug! I'm looking for new things to try, I lost my total recall book just before I got to the try new scenarios bit I think Dexters sit particularly is good, he will sit and stay while I leave the room and return or for up to 30ish seconds (long enough to pose for a photo ) but I'm looking for things to make it more interesting for both him and me! Look at me whilst on a walk and a passing another dog is getting better, it really is slow and steady wins the race with this one though. On a walk last week a dog had escaped his owner and came bounding up to us he just wouldn't listen to his recall and we had no time to get Dexter back on the lead but I was over the moon when I found a moment he was distracted, called him and he came straight to me- I'm sure it was a fluke but I'm marking it as a win. Still unsure whether to enroll in foundation level classes for him, I think it might be good for him, he's so clever I wouldn't want to do him and injustice by not letting him use that brain!
I have been away for work most of the past 3 weeks either so my husband has been watching Dexter and although he does quite well he doesn't really sit and do any specific training with him, he just does the wallks so he practises recall and heel and sit etc. When j have been home I'm working on lie down which he almost does with just a word, also 'on your bed' he generally stays there but we are trying to work on it while we are eating. Our biggest thing now is that we decorated Dexter over night, we are a week in and no massive problems although he ha started chewing which he has never done before? Not sure on how to tackle this as he doesn't chew when we are around? Maybe too early to decrate? Our other biggest challenge is other dogs when he is in the lead... He is getting very strong and will soon pull me over when he pulls so I really want him to learn to look at me instead of at that dog! Finally meeting other dogs off lead for example at home he just play fights constantly there's no off button, we are working on seoeration
