I'm a bit worried but not super worried at the same time, my friend got a rescue lab. She's 8years I think she said or 6, she's never coming out of their bedroom and is very scared (although when I sat down in the room and just sit a bit far away from her without moving she came and said hi). Anyways, next weekend my friend is going out of town and asked if I can watch her so I told her she can drop her off here so I can make sure she eats and so on. She loves dogs also so I hope u can advice me on a good way to introduce her to my 7 month old pup. I planned to clean up and move stuff out of our bedroom so she can sleep in our room and be left alone without my pup harassing her. I hope I can get her a bit more happy, she was used by a puppy mill and wasn't so bad when they got her but after they had people working on the house she won't leave their bedroom unless she needs to go out.
I had a very scared rescue German Shorthaired Pointer and when I got him home, I put him in the utility room with the door open and left him to settle and make his own decision about coming out, he was so frightened that he was fine with my two present GSPs and in fact all three slept together that evening. 8 years of not being socialised is going to be very difficult for your friend's Lab adjust to the new world. I think no pressure and as you noticed, she gradually came out to you when you left her to decide what she felt comfortable with.
Well she was rescued and social when they got her 3years ago. So she been very good, until those workers was doing some work on their house a year ago and since then she been in the bedroom. I think I'll make our room comfy for her with her favorite blanket and let her sniff around in the house a bit while I got Millie in her crate in the other room. Or is that a bad idea? My friend told me the only time she wiggle her tail is when she says hi to their neighbors dog and see other dogs, so I think she might enjoy to have company of my puppy.. If she's not being too awfully with wanting to play.
