Well its been ages since i was last here, my first puppy Barnabas is now over 27 months and the young pretender Aston is 15 months, both are doing great getting on well although my wife came down this morning to find Aston had ripped the kitchens vinyl flooring.

Right onto the serious stuff, Aston moved over to Burns Fish and Rice at about 11 months old as per their recommendation and everything was great, until recently.

He cant keep his weight up, he had he boy buts removed about 6 weeks ago and since then he's lost a bit of weight but is maintaining it.

Hes hovering around 23 kilos, to combat this we increased his food from 300 to 400 grams a day if i remember correctly.

We are sure burns recently changed their recipe as Barnabas suddenly put weight on and Aston lost it even though they were being fed the same.. as recommended by Burns...

Just wondering if finding a new food is in order if so then any recommendations? both are happy healthy boys.

Years ago I fed my German Shorthaired Pointers on Burns and they couldn't keep the weight on, became skinny. I am sure it would be a great food for plumper dogs who needed to lose weight.

I have tried many foods since and the one which is perfect now for my two Labs is Arden Grange Lamb and Rice.

I tried the Chicken one but the faeces were much better on Lamb and Rice :)

I've fed my two Burns for a while. Both lamb and rice, and duck and potato varieties. Both my dogs are slim (under 23kg), but are fed very different amounts because they have different needs. I don't consult what it says on the bag, I feed according to how they look. Willow (spayed girl) has about a third of what Shadow has (entire boy), despite weighing slightly more (at last vet visit). He's always been skinny, but that wasn't to do with the food, because he was the same on his puppy food, which wasn't Burns. He just seemed unable to process more food, so we had to increase the amount very slowly. I think now he looks fantastic; he's still very lean, you can easily feel his ribs when you stroke him, and see them when he turns, eats or runs, but he has just enough cover now not to look skinny.

So, maybe just start feeding a bit more to Aston and less to Barnabas?

We had already been doing that but hasn't made any difference, was our first thought to try and help him put a bit of weight.
