A little story when I was at the vet Friday evening letting Finn checked out after being attacked and bitten by a Great Dane. When the vet was examining Finn he got a phone call from a woman who owns a chi wa wa (sp?). The chi wa wa had eaten a toad...what to do?
The vet told the woman she was the 4th who called him about dog eating a frog. He didn't think the chi wa wa had eaten it for a frog is too big for him. It had probably been in the mouth. She had to rinse the mouth so now and then for frogs have some poison in their guts as defense. Do you see it, a little chi with a frog.....

Just thought to tell you this story!

Cute story! Don't count on a chihuahua (or my favorite spelling "Chi Wah Wah Waaaaah") not being up to eating a frog. They are tough little suckers and much more dog than most people think. That frog probably looked at the chi sideways and got taught a lesson for it!

I thought frogs were OK but toads could be poisonous.
Not sure I would be keen on my dog eating either :puke:

If you hear them they squeek before they get eatten because they blow themselves up to look bigger. I had a deranged old cat who used to eat them the spit them out on the kitchen floor alive. They would be huge frogs don't know how he fitted them in there. No frogs were safe while he was around. His name was Colin and he was crazy

:D We have toads in the garden and on summer nights they are out and about all over the place. Every dog we've had here has 'tried out' a toad at one time or another and its amazing to see what happens. The toad stands up on its tip toes and puffs its body as fat as it can. The dog takes a sniff and a tentative lick - and that's as far as it goes, toad is left alone thereafter. Its already happened with Molly, just took the one lick to teach her

I love the little suckers. When I started fostering the second time around I thought I wouldn't be as heartbroken if I purposefully picked dogs that I didn't think were so cute or friendly. In California, there are tons of chi mixes in the shelters. So...I took the chis. The first one I had, the first time I saw her , I thought, "Perfect - that is simply the ugliest little dog I've ever seen." Plus she tried to bite me. Ha! Joke on me, within 2 weeks I thought she was the most beautiful little dog ever. I still miss her. Luckily Brogan's best friend in Germany was (is?) a chihuahua and I get to kidnap her for cuddles and walks about half the week, so I still get my chi fix in. Someday that's what I would like - one BIG dog and one tough little chi-wa-wa-wa-wah!
