Would eventually like to add another dog to the family. Our yellow is 13 mos and a very good boy (neutered 3 months ago) but does play the dominant card at every chance. He's very insistent sniffing other dogs and will mount eventually. I'm working on him hard but at this point we're not ready to meet other dogs passing on trails and such. And if we never can, that's ok too. I work part time at boarding kennel so can take him along and meeting dogs with wire fence in between has helped some.

Not thinking about another pup, maybe a rehome or similar situation.

Too soon yet, I know. Any advice? Thanks.

Tatze was 15 months when our first pup arrived. It was great fun but very hard work as both wanted to play 24/7. We divided the room to give them both times apart, without that things would have been too much for me and the two dogs.

Now that she's 3 she is a much better influence on the pups, she plays and entertains them but knows when to stop.

When it comes to re-homing another dog I would do a 'trail run' to see how it goes. You could well find they get on famously from the start.

Humping isn't about dominance at all, it's just an excited boy (or girl, Tatze does it!) playing in a way we don't like. Distract him so it doesn't become a habit and he'll be fine.
