I would be so freaked out...wow. I can't imagine going to punch a cougar, even if it did have my dog. :shake:

I will admit that the cougars scare me more than the bears. Simply because the cougars actually will hunt you, and you won't know it until too late. The bears Willmore pretty much leave you alone unless you happen to get between them and a cub or stumble across them feeding or something.

That being said, I hope never to have a close encounter with either of them, thanks.

The closest I've been to a cougar is seeing one run across the highway one night just before town. They have been spotted at the trails I like to walk at, though, so...o_O

Chances are the cougars see you while you walk the trails but it's rare to actually see them. Like you said, they hunt you, or stalk you and they are very stealth. I believe we were only chased because she had cubs.

I came across a bear and her cubs a couple years ago, but she just looked at me every so often while the cubs played in the water. Then off they went. Wish I had taken pictures but I was too scared to do much :D

I don't know where abouts you are in Alberta, but my sister is in Calgary and she took her dog to an off leash park last night and he came across a coyote. He chased the coyote back to his pack, which then surrounded her dog and attacked him. She has a huge King Shephered, 57kg! He's ok though, a few bite marks but mainily just missing patches of fur. Luckily he ran back to her and she scared them off.
