My past dogs have had Bronze, Silver and Gold. Drift (Lab) has all three and Rourke has Bronze and Silver and have just done a 4 week training course to do Gold, but as the test is early in the morning and clashes with a gundog class, I think I have decided not to do the test!

We're working on Bronze at the moment. With Harv's excitement levels around other people and dogs I think it may take a while but that's OK - we're in no rush :)

Barley has done his bronze and silver but will not be doing his gold as there is no way he could do some of the exercises involved.

Puzzle on the other hand should be doing all 3, bronze and silver this year then gold next year if all goes to plan :)

    Time flies doesn't it?

I'm told by the instructor that if Harvey is having a calm day (an increasing rarity!) he could pass the Bronze and Silver tests with his eyes closed. Any suggestions on how I can maximise the chances of having a calm dog before a test?

(In case it's relevant he doesn't suffer from nerves it's just huge excitement at meeting other people and dogs - a bit of a problem for the walking calmly and meet and greet sections! ::) )

Our 2 older girls have done GCDT to Bronze level and then went on to Field Work, it is a great way of starting them off.

Indie got her Bronze last night (just 8 months) :) :), no more classes till September. Might do them depends on the day and time.

Re: All about the Good Citizen Dog Training scheme

Well, I took a 1/2 day holiday today so that I could spend some more time with Harv and try to tire him out a little before the Bronze test. I'm pleased to report that the extra exercise, combined with the incredible heat today, sapped his energy just enough that we made it through 8)

The areas that I knew would be tricky, walking among other dogs and the meet and greet, were certainly his weakest areas but his stay was rock solid and so was his recall.

Wanting to take advantage of newly calm(er) Harvey I decided that we would have a bash at the Silver test immediately afterwards. One downside of having tired him out was that he refused to jump into the back of the car for that part of the test - so I had to pick up the great big lump! However, despite that we passed the Silver test too! I'm so proud of the little chap and how much progress he has made. ;D

Well done harvey, what a good dog :)

Puzzle has her bronze and silver test on the 1st of august, just hoping she will be calm enough and do nice heelwork which is always our downfall.

I got completely put off the scheme by unhappy experiences at puppy class.... but perhaps we should give it a go.....
