Hi everyone, my names John and I'm from East Yorkshire, England, I am retired and love to walk my three Cocker Spaniels. They are Heidi the mum (nearly 6 years) Merlin the dad (nearly 4 years) and Bailey the son (nearly 3 years) whom we bred mid 2013. But the icing on the cake for me will be when we bring home our new Labrador puppy 'Lexi' later in June who will then be 10 weeks old. I am looking forward to training and caring for her very much. This forum will, I'm sure be of tremendous help in that respect and I look forward also to sharing her progress with other like minded forum members. :)

Welcome John, Heidi, Merlin, Bailey and Lexi :) from Hattie 8 years and our rescue boy a Labrador x Pointer Charlie 5 years. You certainly have your hands full but you are obviously loving it. What made you go for a Labrador when you have Spaniels? Helen x :)

Hi Helen, I have always loved these two breeds, when we retired and moved here over two years ago now, we had five dogs, four spaniels and a retriever. Sadly after 3 weeks of the move our retriever (Sasha) died after a series of fits resulting in massive brain damage, and one of our spaniels (Gemma) died six months or so later, of old age, she was sixteen. I have always wanted another Labrador breed after the sudden death of Sasha. So we thought now was the time to bring a Lab puppy into our household before myself and my wife get any older. :)

I'm so sorry you lost Sasha so suddenly and then Gemma, how awful for you and your wife :( I really hope you enjoy having another Labrador in your lives, I am sure Lexi will bring you lots of fun and adventures. x :)

Thankyou, yes I'm sure she will, we are both looking forward to bringing her home and joining in with our 4 paws family. There will be plenty of fun and adventures for her, as we live just 10 minutes walk from the beach and the local park too. In fact we took our spaniels for a paddle in the sea just this morning. So can't wait for Lexi to come and join in, (when she's old enough of course). :)

    Welcome to the forum John!
Sorry to hear about Sasha and Gemma.
You definitely need a lab in your life to complement the spaniel contingent.
I hope you enjoy the forum and are able to share some of your experience with us too.

Yea! Thanks jac, I'm looking forward to browsing the forum for any help and advice towards the care and training of our new Labrador puppy 'Lexi' and of contributing to the forum of our experiences and progress of her as she grows up. :)

Thanks mandyb, no we don't work our three Spaniels, they are just lovable family pets who enjoy plenty of long walks and an occasional paddle in the sea. I'm sure little 'Lexi' would love to join them once she is old enough. :)
