    Thank you Karen!!

Ahhh thanks for the names... I love so much that their pictures are in there to spot!!

    Boogie,

Yes I've read they can go back to the same spot as then can smell the wee and go there again, I've heard of urineoff cleaning solution too?

Hi Lucy! I'm Ruth and I also live in Cornwall - AND we are going to be starting our labrador adventure in 2015 too - on 3rd Jan to be precise!! We are picking up our black lab puppy from a breeder in Devon - we've been on the waiting list for about 18 months, so it has been a long wait, but I know it will be worthwhile. Like you, I have lots of questions and look forward to sharing our experience on this forum. I am very excited, but also pretty daunted and a little bit overwhelmed with information, having read a few articles. I want to do it right, but it is a big responsibility! Where in Cornwall are you? We are nr St Austell - and also surrounded by lots of lovely walks.

I spend quite a lot of time in Fowey. Here is my hooligan, Charlie, in the fields by Coombe - along from Gribbin Head.

We might soon have enough people for a Cornwall forum walk!

    Hi Lucy,

Wow you are really doing your research and getting clued up fast. Although we had discussed getting a pup (my 10 year old and 6 year old have always been frightened of dogs) to help the children it was a spur of the moment to actually do it. Decided in the morning and that night had an 8 week old chocolate male. Fate must have helped along the way I'm sure. The thing that surprised me was how much having a pup was like having a newborn baby. Sleepless nights, outside for wees and poops every 10 minutes, feeding 4 times a day! Tiring to say the least. Rolo is now nearly 6 months and things couldn't be more different, he has settled into our lives beautifully.

My youngest son is 6 years old and his relationship with Rolo has been a difficult one. Constant supervision needed. Joshua would always be very excited around Rolo always wanting to stroke him around his mouth meaning he would get nipped, making him cry and then reluctant to go near him until his confidence would improve and then the cycle would continue, over excitement, nip, cry, avoidance. I spoke with our puppy trainer * who spoke to Josh and told him to deepen his voice (as you can imagine a 6 year old boys excited voice is quite high pitched), slow everything down, long slow strokes across his back, no messing around his mouth and if he gets nipped stand up make a yelping sound and turn away.

Both me and my 10 year old daughter train Rolo, my Husband does a lot of playing with Rolo not training. Rolo responds better to my daughter than he does me but she is like a sponge and listens to everything the puppy trainer tells us and then when I do it wrong she quotes the puppy trainer. Bless her.

Puppy training has been great for us. Not only for training but also socialising Rolo. We haven't trained Rolo with a clicker, our trainer just uses commands, I wish we had though.

Sorry for going on Lucy! Can't wait to hear about your puppy adventures and see pictures.

    Here is some of Rolo.

Kris - if you want to start using a clicker now, it's not too late. You don't *need* a clicker, but I find it a really effective way of training and I know the consistency of the noise and timing is something I wouldn't be able to achieve with my voice.
