Funny, well ironic really, you saying about your feeling towards Riley , I have been just the same with Sam since Millie arrived and also treasure those special times when its just the two of us, good lad Riley :) :)

Obi is so very, very, lovely - (so lovely, it's sinister in a kind of "I'm about to take over the world way", like his namesake... have any more lambies arrived?)

I love that you love Riley even more - that's lovely to hear. :) :) :) It's what I'd worry about getting another dog. That Charlie was as loved as ever.

    Re: Introducing Flintwood Focus

So the little spanner has been with us almost two weeks and time has flown, he's gaining weight and making all the springer and cocker pups at the kennels look like waifs. He's still gobby, he's shouting at me as I type as he's in his crate and doesn't want to be! We're not doing very well with crate training in the daytime but at night he's doing very well. Goes in about 10:30 then is waking needing a pee around 5:30. He gets really grumpy when I separate him from Riley but the poor boys ears need a break from 7kgs of Clumber hanging off them!

OH has been completely clumbered, the little fella has worked his magic and OH thinks he's great, he's got such personality and is a little bit naughty like all good spanners should be ;)

I'm introducing a clicker today and we've been playing chase me games around the garden. Riley stays with me if I ask him to so Obi just toddles along with us doing lots of direction changes. I've thrown the odd little thing for Obi to chase and bring back, being careful to do it somewhere where coming back is early the only option!

He's already worked his way behind all the nut bushes at the bottom of the garden and round the back of the greenhouse. He sneaks in between the wheelbarrow and the greenhouse.....I think he'll get a shock when he doesn't fit!

He's settling now I've put Riley in the kitchen with him, I am slightly concerned that he needs Riley in order to chill out though. He needs to learn to be alone too, I shall have a think about that.....kongs aren't really distracting him, I may need to up the kong content so it's more enticing!

Here's a little photo trying on his new harness ..... I shall try and take more photos, I promise!

    He looks wonderful, Barbara. ;D
You could try the Ben Randall training method and have him run out in straight lines in no time to his feed bowl. It would not compromise your retrieve, but you can teach all sorts of things that way. :)

Oh my look at that face, will be interesting to read how he develops, especially compared to Riley in terms of being a spanner! :) :)

    What a little gorgeous chops!....
And Riley's focus in training doesn't sound unsettled at all, doesn't look like you can say the same for his home life and ears though! ;D

So question about the Ben Randall method.....do you actually "send" the pup towards the bowl and do I need to find an edge to send him down? The kitchen is only 2-3 metres long so i could send him down a run of cupboards......or I could feed him in the garden and get more distance......

Take him into the garden. While he is still this little you can carry him if you like, put the feed bowl down and carry him away for a little distance. Put him down but hang on to him gently, the moment he relaxes just for a nano second send him, with a back command, recall when he has finished eating and give him a lovely treat for dessert. ;D
