Oh thanks Lucy, I have idealistic vision of them cuddling up...... Winston is an indoor cat, they can at least be in the same room together . Fab site xxx

Hello and welcome from Poppy and me.

Poppy did not grow up with cats, and will chase them if they run away. However, she and my mother's cat have learned to get on just fine - they even bump noses when they see each other now, which I would never have believed. I think the best thing is just to make sure your cat can get away whenever things get too much - somewhere to jump up where the puppy cannot reach, for instance.

Hi and welcome. I introduced my pup into a house with 2 resident cats who were not at all impressed with their new house mate. I used a stair gate to keep Juno from the stairs but also to create a safe escape route for the cats. Their food was taken upstairs to the landing so they could eat in peace and not have a puppy snaffling their food. Their litter tray was taken upstairs as well after Juno decided to try and eat the litter. Apart from that lots of Feliway sprayed to help the cats, and never ever allow puppy to chase the cat. It took a couple of weeks to settle but they all get along well and Juno is allowed to get away with giving them licks in passing, and tries to get them to play with her toys. They may not curl up and sleep together but they are all relaxed and content and that's good enough for me.

I did as @MaccieD but still, one cat, the one who had been devoted to the previous dog, pretty well hid for a year. Now she does sleep on our bed alongside the dog, not exactly curled up together but they are friends. We have 5 cats now, only one original left, they all get along with the dog but two in particular are great friends with him.

Hi and welcome from me and 11 month old Dexter. I don't have any cats at the moment but if we see cats I click and treat Dexter for being calm and ask for a sit then treat again. I don't want him to chase cats so try my best to associate them with lovely treats.

Hi there from me & Sam :). We've always had both cats & dogs . Generally after the initial supervised introductions , the cats make it very clear that they are the boss ! Over the years some of the cats haven't minded having a snuggle with a dog . The current cats ( one very neurotic , one aged nearly 2 and a bit of a serial killer ) won't entertain the idea at all . They are fine in a room together but def no snuggling ! Hope all is going well !

Hello Catherine & Monty from me, Belle & Coco - no cat experience here I'm afraid - I wish we did, it might make Coco a bit more calm when we meet one on our walks!

Hi and welcome from me and 2.5 year old Harley
I don't have a cat, but Harley is fine with my dog walkers cats and my friend cat. She won't chase them, but will with others she doesn't know. Good luck
