I think this is great - we've been working on it. OH thinks he is really talented at dog training now - he reckons he is great at saying "hooray!" and giving Charlie sardines. Charlie thinks it's a marvellous idea too!

With my old dog we used to yell out "DO YOU WANT YOUR DINNER??". Same principle, and, used rarely, worked a treat.

Pippa, I love the sound of this, very useful indeed. Should you use the same word for 2 dogs? Now to think up a special magic word!! Thanks. Helen x

I think it would be fine for two dogs together as long as they are together in the same location (otherwise there will be a delay in getting the super douper treat into their mouths) ;D

    Re: Your Labrador's Magic Word

So after reading Pippa's post I sat down with the boys and discussed what could be our magic word, after some quite ridiculous suggestions which only boys could come up with ::) we think 'COOKIE' is a good word as we don't use it in our house. Is this an OK word, wouldn't feel to daft shouting that out :-[

Just wondered is anyone going to use this system or maybe you already do, what is your magic word? Thanks Helen xx

We started with "hooray" but rapidly changed to "Eureka" as we soon realised that we often say "hooray" (so Charlie got 2 free bits of warm, juice dripping, chicken for that). Charlie LOVES learning his magic word!

We were wondering, once we've used the magic word, whether we should start again with a different one. I have to say, it's not taking Charlie long to learn a magic word, he practically takes the skirting board off cornering into the kitchen to get his chicken...

Yes we thought of hooray but with children in the house well teenagers we use that a lot. Eureka that's a great word, now why didn't I think of that!! I think I will get the dictionary out and have another think ::) I don't think you are meant to change the word or it would lose it's power. Helen x

I think Cookie is a cool magic word :) (though if you have American friends to stay, they could be in for a shock :) )

I didn't think of it though! It was in Pippa's article. :) Good word though.

You have a word for poop, I am so way behind ;D

I think we may well go with Cookie, but if David had his way it would be "Dr Who" ::) Heaven help us ;D Helen xx

    Re: Your Labrador's Magic Word

We don't have a magic word for Obi but if we did I'd consider choosing something that it made sense to scream at the top of my voice in an emergency situation - "oh hell!!!" (or words to that effect) ;D

It's something we really should work on - very sensible thing to have in the dog management toolkit!
