My yellow lab's ears seem to be shorter than most. I know he is mixed but with a Golden and another type lab. They are shorter and kind of perk up and fold over on his head. He's five months now and it's more noticible. I have seen the term "flying nun ears" and that's what they look like. Doesn't stop us from loving him, just wondering.....he's a great little companion and learning very quickly the things about living with humans.
Re: Lab ear lenth Hello there and welcome! Labrador ears vary widely - I think particularly in US working line Labradors, you see the kind of ears you describe. They can be super cute. The "standard" for Labrador ears is that they should: "hang moderately close to the head, set rather far back, and somewhat low on the skull; slightly above eye level. Ears should not be large and heavy, but in proportion with the skull and reach to the inside of the eye when pulled forward" But, the standard is what it is, there is still a huge variation in ears on different types of Lab from around the world.
Re: Lab ear lenth Hello and welcome to the forum. Pictures do take a little bit of mastering (check out the Technical and help section) but we need to check ear conformity to see if we can admit you to the inner (ear) forum ;D jac and lilly

[/quote] I'll speak up as the owner of a US working line lab. Bella has very "sporty" ears, but I have noticed as she grows in leaps and bounds...her ears tend to change too.... I would love for her to have a blockier head with longer ears...but she's still pretty darn cute with her silly ears I think... Also...when she is intent on "something" then her ears perk up higher....when she's relaxed, so are her ears... This is her at 7 weeks And at 4 1/2 months And most recently at 7 1/2 months
Re: Lab ear lenth I like that - 'sporty' ears Ears that are always poised for action! Even the totally floppy kind of ears can still have a fair range of movement. My dog has the hanging down type but he still often carries them in a folded back or curved out 'rose petal' type of arrangement.
Re: Lab ear lenth Really, everyone knows real labs have big, long, hairy and floppy ears that blow in the wind and dip into the food/water bowl like Monty's* do. "Do your ears hang low? Do the wobble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knot? Can you tie them in a bow? Can you throw them over your shoulder? Like a regimental soldier? Do your ears, hang, low?"! (Like a spaniel) * Monty is NOT a lab so really I have nothing useful to add so please disregard everything I just posted!

Will have the tune running in my head as I retire for the night. Only.....I have a slightly different memory of the lyrics......
Re: Lab ear lenth NO, I am not looking!!!!! I know those links contain highly brain-invasive musical material.
Re: Lab ear lenth Lord, well if it's Monty's favourite I will watch it but only after work this evening!! :
Re: Lab ear lenth Oh lord...what is this forum coming too? ;D ;D Benson has smart neat SMALL ears...that don't wobble to and fro...
Re: Lab ear lenth oh song be GONE! Scooby's ears, at rest, hang down flat to his head P1030942 by edzbird, on Flickr And when he is chipper and excited he wears them like a "proper" Lab.
