Thanks for having me on this great forum about our favorite dog, don't let my two wiener girls read this, lol. My beautiful Beau passed away 3 years ago. My wife got me another beauty, Raphael, who at 8 weeks was a real joy. Now he is 4 years old, but has had 4 siezures in the past year or so. I joined this forum for more info from other owners. Thank You again, for having this forum! raf108
Hi and welcome from me and Juno, my 19 month old choccie girl. Sorry to hear about Raphael's seizures, do you have to keep him on medication or just deal with each seizure? There are some other members whose pups have epilepsy so more experience than I have on the topic, but come and join in the general chat, we're very friendly here
Hi there and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear your dog has suffered from seizures, there are several members here who have experienced what you are going through and will be able to chat to you about that.
Hello and a warm welcome to the forum from me and my two (usually) loveable monkeys, Willow (black bitch) and Shadow (yellow dog). So sorry to hear your boy suffers from seizures. This must be a horrible thing for you all to experience. I don't have any experience of it myself, but, as the others have said, there are a couple of members who have, so I'm sure they'll be along to offer some advice soon. Where in the world are you? We're not breedist here, so your wieners are more than welcome, too - please fell free to share some pictures
Hello! And welcome, from me and Charlie in London, UK. All your dogs are welcome here. Better than me! I was wondering what NY meant! Oh, New York......duh! That's in America.
Hello , and welcome from me and my two dogs I have cared for a dog who had many seizures , she was on medication for a long time and very effective it was too , if you would like any advice or just support on the subject, please don't hesitate to ask .
Thank You all for such a warm welcome, this is a very friendly forum. Too bad we do not live closer, we could have a lab party, with all dogs invited, and there owners , of course! I thought one of you had monkeys, LOL, until I read further. We have had many non- human primates, saving as many as We could afford and house, for the last 30 years. Our big boy, Rami, is 30 years old. Very loving. We love our lab , so much though, he gets to sleep with us, and the girls, also( wiener girls). Thanks again, raf108
Hi and welcome from us, Hattie 8 years and our rescue boy Charlie 5 years. So sorry you lost Beau and that Raphael has seizures. I don't have any experience but I see Kate has popped by to offer hers . Enjoy the forum!! Love Weimeraner's. Do you have any photo's of your gang? Helen x
I had a German Shorthaired Pointer who had epilepsy; sadly he had to be put down at just 8 years old as he went into status epilepticus (would go into a fit after fit after fit). Up until then we had managed his fits well and he hadn't had one for 8 months. I found the Phyllis Croft Foundation for Canine Epilepsy, very supportive and helpful and more knowledgeable than many vets, mine went to a lecture given by their vet to widen his knowledge. You can Google the foundation and although you are thousands of miles away, I am sure you will find it helpful.
You have non-human primates @raf108? You know, we have a board for other animals too - we've built a strong relationship with ducks in particular over the years, and we specialise in suggesting names for ducks, but non-human primates are very, very welcome here too! Give us a few pics.....
Hi and welcome. Would love to see some pics of your Weims, I used to have one before my current Pointer and Lab.
Hello and welcome from me and my 5 and a half year old girl Lilly. We live in Scotland, near St Andrews. Would love to hear more about your non-doggy family as well as your 4 legged ones. jac
Hi from me and Ella (9 month old choccy girl) in Melbourne Australia. Sounds like you must have a house full! Looking forward to hearing more about you and all of your animals
Thank You: maccieD, editor, snowbunny, JulieT, Kareincornwall, Charlie, Stacia, Mandyb, drjs@5, and Emily, for all of the wonderful welcomes. My wife and I have Raphael, our 4 year old yellow lab, whose picture is my avatar. We also have 2 mini-dachsundts. Sorry for the confusion, we love all doggies anyway, no matter the breed, what's not to love? Oh, I must not forget to mention my dear Kimos, who was a male mountain lion that was left on our front porch in a crate, his toes infected cause someone had declawed him. He was about 8 weeks old or so, still with spots, and weighed in at 14 lbs. we had him until he turned 2 at 180 lbs. He was a doll, so sweet, like a giant kitty. We had to find a home suitable for his size and a mate to keep him happy. It worked out well, with a huge pool and a mate in a public exhibit built by a wealthy person who loves animals. We had so many beautiful non-human primates from squirrel monkeys to macaques. Only monkeys, none from the ape family. They were mostly babies, that were destined to a life in the lab, until we scooped them up and put that hole in their diaper, just like Daisy May, our mini-dachsundt, who had two spinal surgery's and is paralyzed in her hind quarters, leaving her with an atonic bladder. When she is in the cart, she wears a diaper. Our primate room, housed as many as I could afford to build custom cages for. Had a federal licence, so all caging had to be stainless steel. Prices were much lower 30 years ago, but still high. We also had some beautiful baboons, I miss our girls, peaches, Georgette, and Sita. The boys are so cute when 8 weeks old, but get really tough to handle by the age of 5-6 years. The girls stay sweet forever! I find that is somewhat true of our human primate's too. Most have passed on at about the age of 28-30, but our little beauty, Peaches, passed on at 18 years old, from pancreatic cancer. We also have one parrot out of 3 still with us at about 25 years old, Shemp, a yellow naped amazon. Special thanks to Kateincornwall for your most generous offer of support and important information. Also , thanks to Staccia, for offerring the name of a foundation dedicated to canine epilepsy. I pray our beautiful boy, Raphael, will be ok, and not have more frequent or longer lasting seizures. He is going to the vet again, this Monday. I will be going thru this wonderful forum, and will post some old and new photos of Our gang, All animals included, if that is ok. Thank you all again. raf108
Wow, I thought having one Labrador was hard work! Looking after your family of animals must be a full time job!
I hope you have a good outcome from your visit to the vet and Raphael's seizures can be managed. It sounds as if you're kept busy with all your animals!
