Pops took the bandage off AGAIN last night, and so we have bowed to her clearly greater will and she is very happily sporting a sock on her paw instead of the hated bandage. Hopefully this won't hinder the healing process...
Oh Poppy really. What about during the night she might take the sock off? Maybe the dreaded cone might be needed xx
Well you can't say Poppy isn't determined. I guess as long as the claw is covered it shouldn't matter too much if it's a bandage or a sock, but as Helen says will she have the sock off over night?
It's been a difficult few days. Poppy had what we think was a very bad reaction to the Rimadyl on Sunday night, and we had to take her off all painkillers. Since then she has been much chirpier and we have not been bandaging the foot any more as it is clearly very stressful for her. We just wash and disinfect the foot after a walk, then put the antiseptic ointment on and cover it with a sock. Today I was lulled into a false sense of security- she had a short run around with another dog, and the toe broke open and bled again... Feels like two steps forward and one step back.
Aw poor Poppy We have all be there with paws/nails Karen, lulled into a false sense of security, it's best to hold out for complete heeling which is such a long haul, I feel for you. Charlie was in a cone for 6 out of 8 weeks with his carpal pad injury. Hope Poppy feels well soon. xx
Oh heck , poor love , these claws are the devils own to heal up , as Sam knows, but his did well being left open and washing with hibi after ever walk , get well soon Poppy x
Ah Karen,I'm really sympathising with you ,I know exactly how that feels from when we used to think we were out of the woods and then Dexter would break his tail open again...really sorry.At least she sounds more relaxed when she is at home now,that must be a huge relief for you xxx
An update - Poppy's foot is slowly but surely healing; there is only a small red area left, most of the open wound has healed up. Yesterday OH took her out with a tennis ball and a couple of dummies and did a bit of work with her in the training field - mostly searching for hidden dummies. She LOVED it!!! She was so happy in the evening after that bit of training; running around the living room and chucking her stuffed toys about . Made me realize that she's actually been a bit depressed and sad the last couple of weeks. I think I am going to take her to training tomorrow and see how she goes on. I may only stay for an hour instead of the full 2 1/2 hours, but I am sure it will make her very, very happy.
I'm loving to read she is on the mend and playful... I know what you mean....it's different to them just being quiet and a bit below par isn't it? sounds very sensible to me ...you can come away at any point if you think she's done enough and she's going to feel wonderful with all the stimulation x
Great news! I think it was the right move to take off the bandage and switch to the sock dressing....
