    ...pooper!

Is is normal behaviour for a dog to walk (semi-squatted) as he defecates? Saba is in the habit of moving along, leaving a trail of poo behind him, which makes cleaning up a lengthy and frustrating process. Generally, he uses our garden, and this time of year, I don't worry too much if I miss a little bit here and there, and I hose down what I can't easily pick up. I'm getting a bit concerned as Spring approaches as our grandchildren will use the garden and pool. I do of course keep on top of his worming treatments, but as my step-children just tolerate Saba, I don't want to give them another excuse to stay away. Saba is now 6 months old. Have I left it too late to train him to use a specific area, and is it possible to train him to keep still?:eek:

Uhm this is a bit funny haha because Sirius sometimes does that occasionally! So i'm afraid i can't really give you a proper answer, especially now since i'm imagining Saba doing that! Whenever Sirius does that he cracks me up

Is his poop firm or runny? Mine often do this if they have the squits, but when it's good and firm, they'll stay put. Of course, when it's firm, it's easy to pick up, however far apart it is - which is handy, living in the mountains. I have been seen on occasion, running downhill, blue bag in hand, after a runaway nugget....

Shadow went through a phase of a few weeks where he'd cock his leg and then poo in that position. :D

Not unusual behaviour, it's as if they're saying "haven't got time for this, something else is more exciting/I'm going to miss something" . Juno's best friend Jen went through a phase of peeing while trying to walk along and keep up with other dogs on a walk - not easy fork a girl to pee and walk at the same time

Charlie, my 3 year old dog, still pees and walks, and poos and walks.:D

The peeing thing used to be "I can't stay still long enough to have a pee" and now, well, it's mainly an attempt to spread pee as far as possible. So he has been know to cock his leg on a tree and hop, on 3 legs, around it....

He cocks his leg when he poos too...and then I think slightly unbalances, so hops along while he poos....

Sigh. Does my dog sound ridiculous? I think that's probably because he is....:D:D:D

Yey, I'm not the only one with a dog that does this! It makes me laugh so much! He seems to have stopped doing it now, though. This makes me sad.

    Yes. But that's wonderful :)
I tell Shadow most days that he's ridiculous. It's charming :D

It makes no difference! He waddles along regardless. I have had a lovely chuckle over these replies, so thanks everyone :):) Saba is not yet cocking his leg, and I shudder to think what he'll do when that finally happens!

Not usually these days, although if he is on the beach, and very excited, then yes - and also there isn't much to cock a leg against on the beach. I figure he reckons he's wet anyway.....

Ella can do this! Only when something is extra exciting and she doesn't want to miss out!

I've ordered one of these: http://www.thedooup.com/ in the hope that it will make cleaning up after Mr Meandering Pooper a little easier. Watch this space for a review!

I notice they demonstrate it with neat piles of poo on nice flat surfaces....like to see it tackle Charlie's best efforts when he thinks "I'll just try to poo up this tree and hang my contribution in that handy bit of ivy" :D

I bet it would be good for artificial lawns and patio-poopers though.

I just pick up as soon as they have done it - I have a small outside bin to pop it in on rainy days, otherwise it goes straight in the normal bin. No hassle.

I have one of these for sloppy pick ups (very rare).

(You put a poo bag over the grabber things and it goes straight in)

Who has dogs that poo in the garden anyway? Do girls poo in the garden? In the last 2.5 year (since he was 6 months), Charlie has only ever had a poo in the garden when he was ill or recovering from injury. He says what self respecting boy would waste a poo on the garden????
