Hello all x I don't actually have a Labrador, hope that's ok But we adopted North, a viszla husky cross a couple of months ago. He's just coming up to 8 months old and settled in very well. We have been to puppy training and had our local trainer for a couple of home visits. Looking for information and forums this one seems to be the most helpful and I guess a lot of the advice and information on here goes for any breed? Looking forward to learning more!
Hi there, what an interesting cross you have! Look forward to seeing some photos - glad you found your way here and welcome to the forum
Wow, that is an unusual mix! You're very welcome, we're not "breedist" here - and many members have breeds and crosses other than Labradors, sometimes in addition to Labs, sometimes without. I'd definitely like to see more pictures of North. Where in the world are you?
Thanks Snowbunny can't work out how to upload pictures from my phone but I'll try and get some from the pc uploaded. I'm in the UK, Surrey. I'm a new dog owner so have been looking all over for advice and information. I like the methods and friendly advice you seem to get here
Ah, my old stomping ground! I was born in Chertsey and grew up in Addlestone. My sister and parents still live there
Cool I'm not too far from Chertsey or Addlestone. Also born in Chertsey.....many years ago lol we've been walking up at St Ann's Hill and also have Winsdor Great Park on our doorstep which is great for walking!
Hello and welcome! Visla/Husky cross sounds like a high-energy dog - how are you getting on with him? Looking forward to hearing more about North and seeing photos.
Another St Peter's baby? It was many moons ago for me, too! I remember sledging at St Ann's Hill as a kid. I used to think it was massive. Now I live in Andorra, so it's a little less impressive these days North will get well accustomed to watching the deer at Windsor Great Park!
Hi and welcome to the forum from Fred, Annie, (both black Labs) and me. Lots on this site to help all dog owners
Yep, and my son was born there too! Ha ha on lead only in the deer park, he'd be there like a shot making a pest of himself given half the chance!!
Welcome from Hattie 8 years and our rescue boy Charlie 5 years. I don't have full Labradors either. Hattie is a Labradoodle and Charlie is a Labrador x Pointer - very high energy Really looking forward to hearing all about North and how you train him, photo's too of course. Helen xx
Thanks all for the kind welcomes Yes Karen, very high energy lol He's getting on really well, he came to us underweight and not in a great way, from owners who obviously loved him but obviously weren't coping either. We have had some issues with bite inhibition, play biting and not being able to get him to settle when he gets over excited when playing but had a professional come in and help. We are an active family so wanted an active dog and are really enjoying the long walks. He's pretty good off lead, recall with distractions needs work but we are getting there. He's very treat/toy orientated and has been responding really well to training, have a twirl, paw and handshake going on at the moment as well as the sit, stay, here etc Still can't seem to upload photos though, I've looked at the help thread in technical but don't seem to have the option??
As a member of the forum you need to have your photos hosted through a site like Imgur, Flickr etc. and then copy and paste in the bbCode. Details are available on the Technical and Help section.
Thanks Helen xx Well we are finding training a bit of a minefield lol the basic training went really well, apart from a few instances of "I can do that but I'm not going to as the dogs across the field in the other class look more interesting" LOL There just seems to be so much advice and variations on method it can be a bit confusing. Sometimes I think it's best to talk to people which is why I thought I'd join up.
