    Hi all

I'm wondering what training treats you use for your pups? I usually use tiny pieces of boiled chicken which my girl loves but it's a pain cooking it up each time. We are practicing walking nicely on the lead so need something that's really smelly which will capture her attention but comes out of a bag and I can buy online easily.

Would love to hear your recommendations!

    Thanks

    S

Much depends upon the age of the puppy. For a young puppy many of us just use a portion of their daily kibble ration for training treats. Some people don't like manufactured treats because of all the additives in them although there are numerous natural treats available. Personally I wouldn't recommend one treat over another as it depends upon personal choice and what people can afford. Also for consideration is that some dogs get upset tummies with one sort of treats while another is completely fine. Sorry I can't be more help.

For new pups I just use their kibble, slightly soaked. They so easily get runny tummies when tiny. Then, from 12 weeks, I use fish treats from fish4 dogs. (No human food for our dogs as the guide dogs have to be bomb proof food-wise, their owners can't see where their noses are or where food is!)

Once 6 months old these go down VERY well and are good value.

I use fish treats from fish for dogs too - no additives, the company is very clear about where it sources its raw ingredients from, gives accurate calorie and nutritional information, fish is gentle on the tummy (for most dogs, anyway), and they are super scrummy!

I like Fish4dogs treats as well but think they are a bit pricey for everyday training. I also find it impossible to break most of them down smaller. That said I have recently found their Super Stars treats which are small available on Amazon. Juno loves them, so does one of the cats who joins in our training sessions for the treats

We love fish treats for training but I agree the Fish 4 Dogs are hugely expensive but I now order mine from www.skipperspetproducts.com much cheaper and the same product as far as I can see, all ethically sourced, nutrtional information etc. I also buy big bags of the Fish shaped tiny training treats which Hattie & Charlie love. Free delivery too :) x

The closest thing to sea biscuits on Skipperspetproducts is ocean white fish cubes. I can't feed the fish skin because it gives Charlie the most dreadful runny poo. I can't see the price though. How much are they?

    @JulieT they are for medium fish skin cubes £8.00 for 500g, £15.00 for 1kg, £28.00 for 2kg. Large cubes are £15.00 for 1kg and £28 for 2kg (normally £30).

I buy the white fish twirls which are great, they are 8-12" long and 1/2" to 1" in diameter, my dogs love them and they are £12.00 for 500g or £22.00 for a 1kg.

They also have introduced Wolf Fish treats, not sure if they would be better or not for your Charlie's tummy.

The white fish cubes aren't showing a price, you could email them they are very helpful :)

I sometimes buy the mini white fish cubes which are great for training on Ebay for £14 for 1kg again all ethically sauced and from online shops which are also free delivery :)

    I have emailed to ask.

That's more expensive than fish4dogs sea biscuits though - I buy 4 boxes of 2kg at a time, and with pet point discounts and the volume discounts, I pay about £14 / kg for seabiscuits.

I haven't looked on fish4dogs for a very long time, are the seabiscuits the cubes as I can't find them? and I don't have pet points as I haven't bought anything from them in a couple of years, might be worth it though but what's the shelf life if buying in bulk?

Seabiscuits are called 'tiddlers' now on fish4dogs. They have a shelf life of two years, the ones I bought before Christmas have an expiry date of September 2017 (not that they will last that long in this house! :D ).

Found the seabiscuits which are still called that and are 95% white fish, the 'tiddlers' are just fishskin not white fish. Your pet points must be worth quite a bit as the tiddlers are 2kg they are £27.00 and for 4kg £62.50, the seabiscuits are 2kg £38.00 and 4kg £64.00. :)

It's probably because the volume discounts are applied at the checkout, @charlie, that's the confusion.

OK got the seabiscuits, thanks. Still a little more expensive than Skippers for me, if I bought 4kg of the medium fish skin cubes from Skippers it would be £56.00 F4D is £64.00 for 4kg but I don't need the white fish products like you do which you have to have for your Charlie and your discount helps :)

Your welcome, I buy lots of their treats for lunch time chews and training, Hattie would give her right paw for the fish skin cubes so these are pretty high value to her. The chews keeps them happy for a while and are good for their teeth too although I still brush both dogs teeth every day! Hope Juno likes them :) x

OK sorry didn't see the top bit, yours are normally a little cheaper at £13.25 per kg when you use your points which is well worth it for the quantity you use, I wouldn't use anywhere near that amount even with 2 dogs. Thanks Julie :)

Just realised that this is a company I was looking at while living in France but they don't deliver there, but now they are quite local :)
