He's a bundle of joy though and well worth it :) I know people say to ignore them when they cry but that's easier said than done isn't it.

    It really is!

But they soon grow out of it :)

When I get a new pup (I have one every year) I put a box by my bed in case they cry. Then I let them cry but have a time limit - 20 minutes. If they are still crying then they will come by my bed for a few days. So far - touch wood - they have quietened after 15 minutes.

Oh yes! We were lucky with Pongo, he settled down after a couple of nights once he realised he was safe and warm. But those nights....oh dear.

As MaccieD says, you don't have to let a puppy cry. I've had three pups and each has slept in my bedroom at first and each quietened with a few reassuring words - and each moved downstairs without problems after a few weeks.

Puppy close by also helped with those night time toilet trips as I could hear when she was getting fidgety so I could take her out without the use of alarm clocks and before she cried.
