Help! My 7 month pup is stilling going toilet in the middle of the night. He knows he has been naughty as hides in his bed. He has no trouble holding it in the day. We have taken away the puppy pads as we thought these were telling him it's ok to go. Any advice on how we can stop this?
Yes , puppy pads can be a double edged sword as they do tend to show the puppy that its ok to toilet indoors and then the whole training has to start again, it is most likely the pads that have caused his night time lapse, he simply doesn't bother to hold his bladder or bowels . Push his last visit outside as late as you possibly can , encourage him to perform ,using a key word can help and of course, masses of fuss when he does . He is old enough now to be in full control of his bodily functions , so its just a case of keeping those pads away and making sure he goes outside very late, good luck
Yes don't think we will be using buddy pads again. When we did use them he chewed them so not much point to them really. He gets lots of fuss when he goes outside...my husband laughs at me as I do a happy dance
Hi Mrs M, I agree with Kate above. I'm not sure that he really knows he is naughty, or whether he is just reacting to your reaction. I think you might be "anthropomorphising" - giving animals human attributes that they don't in fact have. He is still learning even at 7 months. And some dogs DO take longer than others, be it inherent in themselves, or the way we teach them. Stick with it. He will get there with kindness and consistency
