Hi, my one year old lab , Winnie is weeing and pooing about 3/4 times a week but only at night. She is kept in a utility area with our 8yr old JR who is very well behaved. We can't understand why she does it at night. We used to think it was on evenings when we had been out and come home late, disrupting her routine but there seems no logic. Sometimes we have been at home all day and evening with her. She is walked every day and spends a lot of time wandering in our garden so has ample opportunity to go to the toilet. I feed them twice a day at 7 and 4.30. My floor tiles are not coping well as she always wees in the same spot and the area is beginning to smell like a public toilet despite steam cleaning. Help and advice needed. Thanks, Sarah

Need to clarify she wees and poos all the time but outside...the 3/4 times a week is when she does it indoors at night only. She is our 4th dog and second lab. not had this before with the others.

Not sure why she is doing that but I suggest you get Simple solution or another enzyme cleaner to eliminate the smell in your utility room as the smell will encourage her to continue peeing on the same spot. Other cleaners don't get the smell out.
    Good luck!

Also I don't know if it works with an older lab but I wonder if you try treating her when she does a pee or poo outside for a while with lots of praise so she gets back to understanding she needs to go outside? Have done this with my puppy and still give him the odd treat and always praise (now 6 mo) when he goes outside and he is reliable now. May help?

I'll try that too. I'm at home with her quite a lot so I'll up the praise!

Do you take her out for a bedtime toilet trip or leave her to wander in and out? If she has free access to the garden it could be that she simply hasn't toileted before bedtime - having access doesn't guarantee performance.

As @samandmole says ensure that you use an enzyme cleaner on all surfaces to remove all trace of smell.

Thanks for your reply . In the evening the doors are normally shuts and through the evening she asked to be let out. Then at bed time they both get out outside. I will make sure I can see if she goes last thing at night before putting them to bed.
I have ordered some special enzyme cleaner which should be arriving tomorrow . Thanks, Sarah

I have found this with my two. They normally get a long walk in the early evening when they "go". When we were at our new house a few weeks ago, we were out on the land all day long, with the dogs following us around, and so we didn't take them on a traditional walk as usual. Both nights, they woke us up in the early hours to be let out for the loo. So when we're next down there, we're going to start taking them on a walk in the evening, however much time they've had outdoors during the day.

The usual advice is to feed a bit earlier in the evening, remove water during the evening, say from 9:00, ensure toiet trip before bed and if it's a nightly occurrence I would go back to basics of night time toilet training and start setting an alarm for the early hours and gradually push the time back

Hi, just wondering if you'd had any progress with this? Been having a similar issue with my 9month old lab. Feed her around 5pm and she usually has a poo a couple of hours later but has been leaving us another to wake up to in her pen. She had previously had no issues with going all night so somewhat frustrating.
