Hello everyone, its a pleasure to be here. I lost my Siberian Husky to bone cancer near Christmas of last year, he was my first dog and I loved him immensely. 5 months later, my family and I went to the shelter (just to look, we swore!) and we saw and fell in love with a 1 year old Black Lab mix named Daisy. She was apparently a stray, but she knows her name and knows the basics (sit, come here, etc), so not sure what's going on there. Anyways, this is her: She's booked on the 19th to have her spay (+ shots and microchip), so we won't be able to pick her up at least until then. I have some questions regarding training, exercise, nutrition, and general obedience...but I'll post them in their appropriate sections on the forums. Thanks everyone, looking forward to owning a Lab! It'll certainly be a change from a stubborn Siberian Husky for sure!
Hello and welcome to the forum from me and Lilly. So sorry to hear about your loss. Pretty tough for you. I am guessing Daisy will be MUCH different to your previous experience with your boy. She looks full of energy. Wishing you luck with her Jac
Oh, she reminds me a lot of my girl, Willow. A couple of people on here have had DNA tests done recently to find out what their dogs are made up of. Are you interested, or do you already have an idea? She's lovely, whatever she's mixed with (although she could easily be pure Lab from your photos, too)
Thanks everyone for the welcomes. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me if she's a mixed breed. Of course, the shelter may be wrong about her...they said Suka (my late siberian husky) was a mix, but I was told in person by numerous Sibe breeders that he's a purebred...just a 'badly bred' one. Are white spots/lines on their chest common in labs? Or would that indicate she's a mixed breed?
White spots on the chest (and sometimes under the feet) are found in Labradors (pure bred ones). This is not in itself an indication of being a mixed breed.
Just wanted to say hi and welcome to you and Daisy. Not too long to wait until she joins the family, and it gives you a little time to prepare Look forward to hearing how she settles
Hi there, I defy anyone to go to the shelter just for a 'look' I really don't think it can be done : Great that you've found the Forum, there will be lots of help and advice around the boards and someone is always around to help out if you have a concern about anything . Best wishes Angela x
Hi and welcome to the forum from Hattie 8 years and our rescue Lab x Pointer Charlie 5 years. Daisy is beautiful and looks like a Lab to me but you never know and it just doesn't matter. So glad you found each other. Good luck with getting your girl back to her forever home xx
