I purchased the vet bed that was recomended on my last post but Shelby is continuing to hump and chew on it. Should I keep it in his crate or take it out? I hate to see him sleep in the crate with nothing but he goes crazy when something is inside other than his chew toys. He also uses his soft duck as a pillow so I feel like he needs a bed in the crate.

Some dogs do prefer to sleep on a hard surface.
I would think the humping of the vet bed would be intermittent and liveable with.
Not sure about the chewing - I think that needs supervising.
Vet bed is at least a relatively cheap bedding
Maybe you should try just with his toys for a bit and see how things are?

Hi, our other pup was a champion chewer and vetbed was no exception, he had it in bits in no time. What we did and it worked was we got some plywood to fit the size of the bottom of his crate we then covered the wood with vet bed and stapled it underneath so when put in crate there was no edges that he could get to. It worked a treat

Ah I remember you doing that ......

My dog probably does it to due to living in a hot climate but he chooses to lie on the hard cold tiles several times a day and comes to no harm ...in fact he's just got up from leaning on my arm to go and lie there now! My typing must have annoyed him!
I'd let Shelby have his vet bed if you are there to watch him but take it out when you have to leave him and give him something safe like a Kong for when he's not supervised x
