There were never supposed to be edit or delete buttons available. :) These were left available for some people, by mistake, and then unfortunately we found people were using these to change posts after others had replied, delete posts after others had replied, and even delete whole threads (which was possible by the person who had created the first post). So they got turned off (as was always supposed to be the case).

After we installed the new forum software, we did have it set to allow people to edit their posts initially for 30 minutes. But we had a whole spate of posts being deleted recently and so I turned it off.

If anyone can think of a workaround for this, let me know. I do appreciate that it is annoying to not be able to edit out mistakes.

But I don't want people deleting whole threads that dozens of others have contributed to, or altering a post they made after someone has replied, in such a way as to distort the discussion. So it requires some thought

It's always the minority that spoil it for the majority :(

I found it such a good function as my spelling and grammar is not always great so I like to go back double check and correct. So I will apologise now if my grammar and spelling is not up to scratch :$ x

Hmmmmm I've deleted posts / threads , not to change or distort any discussion , but because of the inclusion of personal info on a public site , my own over sharing !

Oh dear....I have only edited to include a sentence or change a few words, and usually within a few minutes of posting. It must appear to some of you that English is my second language my grammar and spelling are so bad!

Me too. My only edits have been immediately after posting as it seems that, no matter how many times I proof read, I don't notice errors until I hit post!
