Moos finally starting to show her age. She is very stiff and vey lame in her right front and right rear leg. I use yumove and am also using a metacam type anti inflammatory and they don't seem to be helping hold back her stiffness like they used to. It seems to have got bad very suddenly and a trip to the vets is now a must, shes not been doing too much and she's not banged herself. Its the sudden on set and the fact that the back leg is the same one with the discolouration and thickening of skin around her skirts and belly is worrying me. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Poor girl. Sorry, I've not experienced having an older dog so can't help there. She might of become so used to metacam that it just doesn't give the same affect as before. Might be worth looking at her meds with the vet x

Belle has slowed right down. She either won't come for a walk or will accept a short, slow sniff around the block. Have you been having hot weather? It's only been as high as 23C here, but that has REALLY knocked Belle for six. Her back legs are really stiff-looking when she gets up, and she has wobbles while standing. It's a bit cooler today & she's much happier. We'll be switching from Metacam to Tramadol tomorrow - I'm hoping she's still OK with it. She's eating, drinking and barking at passers-by so I'm happy.

It's such a hard time. No experience here with exactly the same set of circumstances but probably close enough with several aged dogs and cats that I can guess how you feel. One thing my Vet suggested is that it's hard when you are close to see how an ailment is progressing. It's insidious and we don't notice the slight day to day, week to week, month to month changes. This when my cat was suddenly deaf but the Vet said we had adjusted to each other so it was hard for me to notice as her hearing failed. Maybe not quite the same when it's a mobility factor but a family member or firend who visits might notice a change more easily. Lots of good thoughts for you and Moos.

Tilly is 10 and has slowed down quite a bit. She will still walk as far as we do no problem, but she seldom runs very far or fast. Our first lab, Ginger, made it to 16, and even though she became diabetic at 12, she was very active for the next 3 years. Tilly seems to be slowing down faster, although having Cooper around keeps her more active.

I hope you find some answers soon and that the vet can keep her comfortable. One of my old dogs had seraquin daily to kelp with her arthritis.

I'm really sorry to hear about your Moos. In humans, if one side is affected, a stroke can be suspected. Have you seen your vet and has your vet looked into the possibility of a stroke? I don't want to worry you, but it was an immediate thought when you mentioned it's all on her right side and that the medication isn't having an effect. I hope you find answers soon and that it all turns out well.

no its not a stroke my OH had a look at her and a friend and they work in stroke medicine for humans. She has improved over the weekend i've cold packed her and gently walked her as she seemed to more stiff than any thing. She will be going to the vet as she has not improved as I would like I think its time for something better than a metacam type drug. She's much happier and is beating her toy boy up and jumping onto the comfy chairs so I think she feelin ga bit better.

She's on steriods for 2 weeks and she has improved loads. Shes much happier and is not in so much pain. her leg joints are all ok but her right hip and right shoulder are the problem. We'll just have to see how she goes now, she's everso hungry because of the steriods but she's got her naughty look back. He rat toy has had some serious abuse over the weekend

she's been so ill during the night and sick so much, I'm going to ring the vets asap and we will have to change her medication. Poor little dog didn't even what her brekkie now that is serious. She had gone for her first walk in a a week last night and I though we had turned the corner but no she's not in pain but is feeling rubbish.

Oh dear, I hope the vet can change her medication to something that keeps her comfortable but doesn't make her sick.
