    Hello
I was just wondering at what point are people considering their puppies fully house trained?
I feel we might be behind. Hugo is now 5 months and while I would say he is fine 95% of the time he will still poop in his crate over night - I try and catch him by setting my alarm around 4am which sometimes works sometimes doesn't and I can struggle getting him back to bed after. He doesn't have accidents in the house as a rule although always seems to when husband has him on his own ( very rare and I think he doesn't spot the signs he needs to go out). We have also just broken through to an extension which has confused matters as Hugo ran straight in and pooped on the floor, I think he thought it was outside! ( extension now blocked off to him). So I guess I'm saying he is house trained as long as watched carefully What are other people's thoughts?! ...

I have heard of some dogs not being 100% until they are around 10 months old. An extension may well confuse him. I think we need to be vigilant on watching for signs to help them. At 6 months old, Harley went and sat by the door - I was in another room when she gave a quick, short bark. I came in and realised that she needed to go out. Previous to this she hadn't ever barked. She was 95% housetrained from 12 weeks old, but not 100% until she was about 5/6 months old.

Does he have a poo before you put him to bed at night and what time do you put him to bed? I don't raw feed my dogs, so maybe someone can help you there. I would try and feeding him at 4 instead and see it that helps. Making sure he has a poo before I put him in his crate at night.

I was lucky my old boy was house trained by for months and Rory was pretty much house trained when he arrived he was amazing, but Midge took ages she was still having problems at about 7 months but eventually got it. They are all different. My feeding is done at 5am and 4 pm and I did find that moving the tea time feed did help as suggested

My theory is you have to train the boys twice. First on horizontal surfaces; grass yes, carpet no. Second on vertical surfaces; trees yes, people legs and wall corners no. :) The second training will be when they start the tripaw'd pee, around 8 months old for my boy. Now, my boy didn't ever try a vertical pee inside the house but there is an attractive outside corner in my Vet's office that is most likely freshly annointed every day by some male dog, so I watch him there, still.

Oban never had an accident in the house during the daytime but he was not clean overnight till 4.5 months. So, I guess 4.5 months for him.

On this note, Shadow has never peed on people, thankfully, but the other weekend, I was at the new house in Spain, which doesn't have a toilet, and squatting down for a quick wee in the corner of one of the fields. The dogs both came up to see what I was doing, decided it was wee time themselves. Willow squatted next to me, but Shadow lifted his leg at me! I immediately squeaked, "Shadow! Nooo!" and he stopped before any damage was done, but it did make me chuckle!

I feed Millie who is about to turn 16 weeks soon (wow time pass too fast) 3 times a day, 7/7,30am then 12 then at 5pm and she always has to poop around 7,30pm when we get home from a evening walk. But what I also have to do now is give her something around 9pm (usually a slice of apple) or she pukes from an empty stomach :s
