THANK YOU Molly for your words. I feel a weight off my shoulders and less of what the hell did I do. We left a trainer that is rough, rude, pops choker chains with barbs, shock collar. We ONLY, interviewed him and watched a session. What an a** !!! Beebe is smart and sweet. The crate worked today; 3 x she has pushed me on, the leave it when she starts to "attack" and sit. I picked her up, gently said; sleepy time and here is your chewy. The 1st time she passed out in a minute. The second time she barked for 3 mins and collapsed into a sleep and the 2nd time she layed and watched us in the room. I bought a different book, darn it. Dr. Ian ?? recommended off a Lab site. If I don't like it; Amazon for $4.00. I will get Pippa's. I see she has other books as well. I will order soon ! I will post a pic to my profile of our Dr. Jeckyll MISS Hyde.
Yes, Grance; the look in her eyes....I see it and it starts like a firecracker, instant and intense. THANKS for your support ! I greatly appreciate it !
Gosh, I am so grateful for your reply. EVERYONES REPLY's have helped Beebe and me. AND my son; and husband. What kind of chicken wings???? !!! INTERESTING and wanting to think and possible try this. We def. need options of many chews as someone mentioned before...having many options for.
Hi @Tiffany raw chicken wings - I buy them at Iceland and they really are cheap. I bring them home and as I can only get them fresh I then pop them in small food bags and pop them in the freezer. Bailey loves them! Also try frozen carrots (raw). My boy really does not like stuffed kongs, he will play/lick at them for about 2 minutes and then leave them, so I resorted to freezing things that he does like!
My 3rd lab was like this don't despair. he's lovely now he's nearly 3. I used my crate and khongs when he got this over tired and over the top. i had bites scratches and brusies for months and his behaviour was complicated by his colitis which was painful. You will get though and everyine here will help you and support you. hugs from us all
I think you mean Dr Ian Dumbar. I haven't read his books, so I cannot comment. I liked Pippa's books because they are very readable. There is humour in them and an understanding that we are humans and it doesn't always go quite to plan. Please you are feeling more relaxed about things. Dogs do pick up on our moods and react to them. I am just off to remonstrate with Molly who is barking at a new dog in our road, she is not a really Barkly dog. From the "get go" I trained Molly to be quiet when I put my finger to my lips and she does. My husband has always believed that shouting at her to be quiet works. It doesn't, she thinks he is joining in and barks even louder. Thus proving that dogs are easier to train than husbands.
I mentioned to my husband; I may be seeing a pattern with tired and need to assess for pain or urination needs. I noticed last evening x2 that she was this way and then had stress incontinence. hmmmmm! Thanks for your help...hearing the examples of others acting crocopup and to extreme is helpful. I am shocked how they can be this way though....!
Well @Tiffany just to let you know I a sporting two new plasters on my left hand today - Playing with a balloon which when popped left a very excited pup who jumped up at me and latched onto my hand - sharp puppy teeth combined with being in mid air...ouch however, afterwards a very sorry pup as games had to stop while I found the plasters and stuck them on! He now keeps putting his nose on the plasters and looking up at me with doe eyes hey ho - no balloons for a while then!
Lots of plasters all round today, we were doing really well this afternoon when she gripped my 4 yr old by the ankle. The screaming just makes her more excited and bite harder. Then I saw my mother in law who showed me her wounds from Monday when she was looking after Molly. Sigh. How old is yr son? Xxx
Had one of those mornings over here too... Duncan jumping up to bite the lead getting all hyper and overexcited and then got my thumb and bit really hard and scraped his teeth all the way down it.... I was not a happy camper! especially since it was 645AM - not a good way to start the morning with yet another wound from Duncan !
@Tiffany hi. Have been meaning to respond since I saw your thread in the middle of the night. Luna was like this, mainly with the kids. I started to segregate them most of the time, and at busy times like getting everyone ready for school or homework and cooking tea time I put her in her crate. Once she was getting downtime regularly it started to get much better. I do regular obedience classes with her and this has helped her listen a bit more I think. Now she is 20 weeks and things have been much much better for the last 3 weeks or so. If she goes to nip I say No and put her straight in Her crate but it isn't frenzied or out of control anymore and thus manageable. I still make sure she has downtime In her crate when the kids are about becasue she finds it difficult to settle when they are about.
