Ok, ok, I know that the challenge of The Teenage Labrador will soon be upon me, and I more than most know what's that like.....:D

But that also means that I appreciate the puppy recall days more than ever....just love it. Yay! Recall is the most exciting thing EVER! Long may it last.....:D:D:D

What a lovely, waggily tail. I feel when a puppy recall is 'bedded in' and may disappear at teenage years, it is always there and will come back :D I trained no 2 to a tennis ball and he has a fantastic recall. No 1 takes his time, he might or he might not! I didn't train him to food or a ball :(

Gorgeous puppy!!! She's beautiful! I agree so exciting when they come back. Having not trained my last two properly (as clueless) I still get excited when Mole comes back to the whistle or call! Makes walking such a pleasure :)

You made a comment about 'oh not you as well not being interested in food'! So I wondered if when you recall you offer less food and don't have to say 'eat it all up', you 'may' put her off recall! I know the theory is to scatter food on the recall, so perhaps you could do very tiny pieces of food, like little weeny, teeny bits of tuna.

Aw, lovely little video. What a happy girl! I agree with Stacia with training early means it comes back after "silly season" - my two had a lovely puppy recall, and then blipped as teenagers, but (not without some work on my part!) they're back to having excellent recalls again. I'm sure that the strong foundation they had from a very young age - around or even before weaning - was hanging around in there, just slightly hidden by all the teenage butterflies flapping around in their brains.

They still recall with massive enthusiasm, which is a real joy. Compared to a dog who has been taught "come back or else", who have completely different body language when they come back.

The food was just supposed to stop her following me down the garden - I was trying to get her to stay at the other end, so I could blow her recall as she headed back. I was a bit surprised she didn't stay eating the food on the floor. Charlie is the same, in ping pong recall, he will often spit out the food he is running so hard to get! I do think eating and running so quickly might be a bit inconsistent.

Ah, I see! Good that Betsy thinks more of you than food! Will OH hold her so that you can then recall?

I'll have my friend with me next week, so she'll help me. OH is not allowed anywhere near Betsy's training! He is incapable of following instructions. :D

I did wonder about that! I had added 'doing a recall between you' then deleted it as I guessed you wouldn't want OH being involved quite that much:|
