That all sounds very positive. An isolated beach hut holiday will come just at the right time to vary the long recovery period. Hope Mabel's feeling braver by now and ready to come home.
@Cath thank you for asking. She's actually amazingly well. I cannot believe how much weight she can put on her right leg. The limp is very bad when she first gets up but eases as she walks which I was told to expect. We have done a couple of tiny walks and she went and fetched her toy when she saw the lead so that was really positive. It is so quiet where I live which is such a blessing and we have a green and brook literally 10 seconds from the end of our drive. Perfect for Mabel. I took her out on the grass, on the other side of the brook was a guy I used to work with who had his daughters massive gorgeous lab. He only went to let the dog off to play with Mabel. He knew she was due to have surgery, plus her right leg and upper body is shaved and she has a massive bandage and a No Dogs collar. I shouted at him to keep away I think I must have used such a tone he took 3 steps back. I'm going to be known locally as mad women!!! I did cry though when I got home with shear frustration what is it with people. She's asleep with her head on my knee now, perfect I can't move to do the ironing
You are a warrior Claire, sound as mad as you like...Mabel needs you looking out for her ,it's critical at the moment. You can't change folk, daft as they are at times so you did the right thing xxx I met someone who has since become a really good friend by completely yelling at her to get her dog on a lead when Dexter was stitched after his tail op ... She sounds in really good shape mentally at the moment so just get her physical rehab underway and you are on the path to better times.Enjoy your break away,it sounds like a perfect location for where you are at the moment x
I'm really surprised Claire that the guy can still walk . Some people just don't think! I wouldn't worry about what anybody may think, your first priority is your beautiful girl
Oh dear, some people...! You've obviously got Mabel well trained in help for ironing avoidance. Perfect!
just catching up - Mabel is such a trooper to be up and about, and lucky to have Warrior Claire to defend her against thoughtless folk & their dogs. Seriously, good wishes for her recovery.
Go warrior Claire! So glad she seems to be doing so well. Hang in there, so good you have a holiday booked to look forward to.
How come I missed all this! Drift had his elbow op at The Willows, ten years ago and he had a screw and two pins and is fine. He does swing his leg out a bit and has had arthritis in his paw because of it, but a few goes with laser therapy at vets' sorted that. So pleased to hear all is well with Molly, just wanted to give you an example of success which I hope will cheer you.
Lovely to hear Mabel is doing so well, bless her I hope you are OK too Claire as it's such a stressful time xx
Mabel is doing very well, to the point where by yesterday I almost had to wrestle her to the ground as she went into super silly over excited mode when she saw my neighbour. So now not only are dogs not allowed to greet her but people too. A guy in the next road who refuses to listen to me went to approach her today after I've explained. I then told him to keep his distance otherwise if she damages herself she will have to be PTS. I think that phrase is the only way to go with some people. That stopped him in his tracks.
There you go ,being all Warrior like again! Great to know she feels up to an enthusiastic meeting but news the time when it's probably hardest for you...she THINKS she can do it,but you KNOW she can't ...it must be tough x
