    hi all

Just to let you know that we have brought our 8 week old Marley home today. The journey was completely fine he was in my wife's lap the whole way not once did he cry or whine just looking out the window and having naps :)

When he came home I took him straight to the spot where I want his area and he sprayed and done a poo. Was strange never seen this? But I was very happy with him

Let him roam the garden on the lead and was running around crazy pulling very hard. Now he has been alseep for the past hour!!

    Hoping he sleeps tonight now!

One quick question. When Marley wakes up from a nap do I need always need to take him out for a wee or only when he has eaten or had water?
Oh and do I set my alarm tonight after 4 hours to take him out?

    Thanks :D

Yes, you should take him out to toilet every time he wakes up, after playing, after eating and after drinking. Plus every time he looks like he's going to go - if he starts sniffing or circling (you have to be really quick if he does this!). And generally every 15-20 mins that he's awake to start off with.

Set your alarm and see how he goes. If he's clean with 4-hour breaks overnight, increase it by 15 minutes each night. If he can't hold it that long, you may have to decrease it. Each puppy is different. Some hold it very well from the first night, others take a long time until they can go through the night. It's nothing to do with your training method, just how quickly they grow up.

Welcome to the family, little Marley!

They do sleep a lot to begin with, just like a baby. Treasure those moments :)

    Thanks guys ;)

Do all new puppies have a runny poop? Since he has been with us his poop is quite runny. I am putting this down to stress or food he is on (pedigree puppy)

How long does it take for poop to become solid if that is such a question

Is he on the same food that he was on at the breeder's? It's recommended that they keep to the same diet for the few weeks? A month?

    Hi
Yes I brought the same puppy bag as the breeder but I want to change his diet as I don't like pedigree

    Welcome Marley

Most pups have runny poo due to a bit of stress from leaving his home. I would leave him on that food for a few weeks, but would look around at other food as pedigree isn't that good.

Yes, puppies can have runny poo from leaving their familiar environment. In fact, puppies can have runny poo for a multitude of reasons! If it doesn't settle down soon, take him for a check-up with the vet (take a sample with you) so the vet can check for any tummy bugs that may need treatment. And keep an eye on him - puppies can get dehydrated very quickly, so any signs of lethargy etc, get him to the vet straight away. But try not to worry, just be vigilant; occasionally runny poo is so common in pups as to be normal.

    Well survived the first night!!
Fed him at 9pm and went to bed at 11, he slept all the way through the until 5am . Took him out again at 8. He is now fed, done his business and playing,

One thing that struck me was he doesn't like when he sees his own reflection. He really growls and barks. I have since covered the heater as I believe it was making him upset

    Hope it continues :D

Hah, Willow was the same with her reflection at first. She'd play bow at it, but get frustrated when it didn't play with her. She grew out of it :)
