Luna was sick at puppy training on Monday and then tried to eat it.

This morning there is a patch on the cushion in her crate that looks like she has been sick in the night and now, becasue of what happened on Monday I think she was and has eaten it.

I think this has happened before.

She isn't being sick continually, seems healthy and well, bouncy as usual and after treats just as much. Eating well.

    What am I worried about?

    Should I be worried?

    Is this normal?

Has she swallowed a forbidden object and got it stuck?

Should I take her to the vet?

Hiya eating sick (as well as other disgusting things) is something they do. Have you noticed she is sick after anything in particular or is it just random? Bailey used to be sick after eating too much rabbit poo (see told you!), but now he's perfectly fine after eating it :puke:.

If you are at all worried then give your vets a call, if nothing else it will put your mind at rest.

My cats eat their own/each other's puke if I don't clean it up first. Xena will eat the cat's puke if I don't clean it up first. Xena will eat her own puke if I don't clean it up first. Animals are just...gross.

Sometimes they're not actually "being sick" in the sense that we'd think of it. But, if they eat too quickly, their stomachs can't cope with the food and they need to have a second go, to let it break down a bit better from chewing and their saliva before they can digest it. So you can think of it more like regurgitating than vomiting. When either of mine truly vomits, they don't eat it.

My 8 month old guy has had a few incidences of being sick, usually we have been unable to figure out why - but he has been well within himself- either way, unless you get to the spew pretty quick he will also eat it. It is gross, but I don´t think its unnatural at all, and I dont think its anything to worry about to be honest. As long as your pup is happy and eating and drinking as normal I wouldn´t stress.
Also as snowbunny said, it is more just like regurgitated food. When they have a true vomiting bug, you certainly know about it, and they certainly dont seem to eat it then.

Ok. Thanks everyone. She is really well in herself so I will just put it down to grossness!

Millie get sick during the night if I don't give her something in the evening to snack on (she get her last meal at 5pm). I read somewhere that some got sensitive bellies and puke if the belly is too empty. And she used to gulp her treats which made her puke, I started using small cut up Apple pieces and my problem was gone.
I don't say that is the case since your pup puked at training, it's just an input if it continues being over night.
I hope nothing is wrong with your little one, they get into a lot stuff that can make their sensitive bellies reject it.

When Cooper was a puppy he would throw up bile in the morning.....vet told me I was feeding him too early in the evening...6PM...and puppies stomachs react that way when they are empty so I cut down his 6PM food and gave him the rest before he went to bed....took care of problem. Now he is 2-1/2 years old but still gets a large milk biscuit before he goes to bed!
About eating puke....yes, if you dont get there in time!! Guess it is their puke unlike fox, rabbit poo!!!Gross.....and then they give us a good licking.....yuk!!! But we love them anyway!

My old dog would throw up bile first thing in the morning unless I fed him early - this continued his whole life long! Regurgitating undigested food is completely normal, and so is re-eating it... but normally dogs wont eat proper vomit. I'm sure your puppy is fine :)

The reason they eat sick is that mother bitches regurgitate their food for the pups as they wean them, so pups are naturally inclined to enjoy the taste.

I feed Luna around 6 so I guess by the time she goes to bed her tummy is empty. I will try splitting her tea. The trainer said don't feed her before training,he said it makes them keener but I have read stuff on here that suggests that isn't necessarily the case.

However I guess we would have a full meal then go straight out for a run so on that basis maybe I will leave it till after training g on that day.

I read a study a couple of weeks back (I can't bring it to hand right now), which suggested that dogs worked better after a small breakfast than if they were hungry. From what I recall, though, the "work" involved was sniffing out food, so it could be postulated that if they were too hungry, being over-excited about finding food could lead them to switch their brains off! Maybe you could extrapolate to say, if they're working for food rewards, the same might apply. Dunno. It doesn't appear to make much of a difference to mine whether they've been fed or not. They're Labs. They're always hungry! :D
