We took Stanley for a walk down the river last night, let him have a splash around. He dived in - head first, mouth wide and snapping (genuinely think he's part crocodile). After that we carried on with our walk and I think he may have eaten a little bit of cow poo. Definitely won't have been much if he did. When we got home he was OK, his usual self. But then he was sick twice - about half an hour in between. He went to sleep after that & me & OH stayed up for a couple of hours extra to see if there was any more - there wasn't so we went to bed. This morning when I got up he'd been sick all in his bed and crate, he'd been barking about 5 minutes before so I assume it was then. He seems ok in himself, ate all his breakfast and drinking plenty. Still trotting around with his toys. Do I need to be worried or do you think he's just eaten something a bit funny? Or the river water has upset his tummy? Thanks
If he vomits again or changes in his demeanour or energy levels (e.g. becomes lethargic or doesn't want to eat) then I'd take him to a vet. But if he stays bright and happy and doesn't vomit again then I would not worry - most likely he's just eaten something in the walk that had to come out again. That is a very common occurrence with Labradors! The fact that they can vomit so easily is a good thing - it's a simple matter for them to get the bad stuff out of their tummies (and onto your carpet ) where it can't hurt them any more. So, a vomit or two is not necessarily anything to worry about (unless it had blood in it in which case I'd definitely go to the vet). Their overall behaviour is the important thing to watch. From whay you describe he sounds fine to me.
Thanks for your reply He's been sick again so we've booked him to go and visit the bet. Still seems happy enough in himself but 4 times in around 14 hours seems a lot to be sick. Poor little mite. Even his best friend, Lovey got sicked on
Can you take his temperature? He may have swallowed too much water. But it could be he picked up a virus or bacteria from the water too, so Vet after that much vomitting is a good idea. Poor wee guy, was his crate big enough so he didn't have to lie in stuff he vomitted up?
He's at the vets with my OH now. Hopefully they'll be able to give him something to make him better. Don't like him being poorly, he still seems OK in himself though. Yeah his crate is sort of half & half so he has his bed in one side and then a play area on the other. Obviously Stanley decided to be sick all over his bed and blankets then lay on the side that's bare though
Thanks everyone Vet says he's just eaten something he shouldn't have, she thinks it will be something in the river. He's on chicken & rice and has been given some tablets. He hasn't been sick for about 8 hours so hopefully over the worst of it. And he's got (a very clean looking) lovey back so he's happy [/URL]
Aw - this happened with Quinn too in her early swimming days. Swallowed a ton of water - not sure if it was the amount or bacteria in water but she was back to her old self quite quickly. Feel better Stanley!
