Ah yes that is really unfortunate. The damage labs can do are crazy. I met a lady on a walk who said her dog swallowed her cell phone whole, twice! So not only did she have to buy two new cell phones, but also had to pay the vet bills But do try to understand from his point of view that he was simply bored, it's better than he did that than escaped and lost him. He wasn't thinking "oh this will teach dad to never leave me again" But I understand the frustration. Axel chipped my husbands tooth the other night and I got it through to him that he wasn't trying to hurt him he was just playing with his dad. But understandably so... He was very mad. And it's ok to be mad or frustrated. Just don't take it out on the pup
That phrase, "I told you so" or similar, is often used by people, who are simply bursting to let the world know how right they are....it is usually at the expense of someones feelings. It's sad because they simply aren't capable or mature enough to keep their mouth shut. It isn't constructive, or helpful. Just hugely insensitive. They are often lacking in confidence and esteem, or actually may feel intimidated in some way, so the opportunity to blurt "Hey world look at me I am SOOOO right!!" just has to let itself out like a cork in a bottle or labrador faced with a sausage sandwich. Smile magnanimously and reply "yes, you were so right, I really, really must listen to you more in future.."
I was told I was crazy to get a dog at my age......yes, it was a lot of work, my breakfast table and chairs are all chewed to bits, a sofa ripped to shreds and now has a sofa cover over it to make it look half decent.....but I have a wonderful, affectionate companion that fills my life. BUT I do use my day care extensively. He loves going there and playing with his friends....this place has been my salvation! If he has to stay overnight I pay extra for him to go to one of the day care lady's homes to sleep over. He is never crated there. I know it is an expense but I want him to be happy and it makes me happy too. Hopefully you will find this new day care is wonderful and will save your sanity! Good luck!
we have one helpful relative who, on seeing some photos of Coco on Facebook, said "I can see from his eyes your're letting yourselves in for big trouble". He's constantly criticised my training, telling me "don't train with food, he will expect it all the time". He tells me how wonderful his dog(s) were with his old fashioned training methods (I don't know how long ago, I'm trying not to show any interest). I rise to his comments, but because they're on-line I can back off, and not reply. Heaven help me if I ever meet this idiot, I will not be held responsible for my actions.
Ugh, you do get idiots. I had someone telling me that he beat his dogs with a stick when he got them and after that, he could walk anywhere with them off lead. "Idiot" doesn't do that justice, but the words I would rather use aren't suitable for polite company.
Well, if it cheers you up, I expected the chewing but both mine never did Give your pup kongs to chew on and when you can't supervise him, ie when having a shower, cooking, or cleaning or shopping, pop him in a crate. Take no notice if people laugh and snicker, when your pup is grown, you will have immense pleasure and companionship and you will be the one smiling.
Some doggy daycare collect your dog and drop them back off. I don't have a lab yet (dog in photo my parents) but hoping to get a pup early next year and I've been researching daycare for the 3 days I work. That might work. I'm going to get a pen too or they will destroy things
Wish mine picked up and delivered!! No such luck here. Would be nice in Winter so I don't have to slip and slide on snow and ice! Still, day care is a great deal because pups play, socialize and exercise and come home knackered!!
Oh that's a shame I've found a few that collect and return (can give them a key if you're at work) included in price or mall extra. I love near London though so maybe depends where you are. It does look good I could go to work without worrying and hopefully a happy tired dog would be delivered home!
I know our boy would get in more trouble then we know what do with lol. He started to steal anything he can get his paws on. It is not funny but so hard not crack up when he struts around like he has a trophy. I am lucky that I am home with him most of the time, but when we have to leave him alone we crate him with his favorite toys and a kong toy filled with yogurt, blueberries and peanut butter. We always make a point that we never leave him alone longer then a few hours.
I think everyone would be glad to hear he has gone to his new day care place today for the first time. I am working today and tomorrow on day shift, and then friday saturday night shift, so he will only need looking after twice this week. Lets hope the daycare place is good. The wife updated me this morning and said she still made it to work on time, so it's started off well.
And I am happy to report that the wife has just picked him up and he is one buggered little man. Played well with the other dogs, going back tomorrow. We also had our long overdue recliners delivered. Life is good
That's good news. Bet you're looking forward to returning home after a long day at work and slumping in those recliners
Definitely, 12 hours shifts aren't fun. I am more interested in the steak for dinner at the moment tho.
Doggy day care is the best! After Stanley's been he's a little dream all night. They're my favourite days!
Good day cares a like GEMS!!! And if your pup loves it....double gem!! And jumping (or crawling) into your recliner at the end of the day.....oh,my!!! Wonderful! And you looking forward to a nice steak.....yummmmmmm!!!!
