HELP!! I have a 10 month old chocolate Labrador called Charlie who has just nicked a big bunch of grapes and eaten the lot. I've read that grapes are highly toxic to dogs so now I'm worried sick about him. Any advice please on what I should do? Many thanks

You need to get the vet urgently..time is of the essence. We were very lucky with our boy who had eaten raisins, we got to the vet quickly, they treated as an emergency and induced vomiting.

How many grapes would an average lab have to eat before needing a trip to the vet? Hope your pup is ok, Ann.

Hi all many thanks for your advice and support. Took Charlie to the vets, they gave him an injection to make him sick and they're keeping him in for the next 24/48 hrs so fingers crossed he'll be ok x

It gives them renal failure and it's a dangerous toxin. If you look it up, you can find details. It's not like chocolate

Good for you for acting quickly. However I have to say that my dog ate massive amounts of grapes off our grape vine and was perfectly ok. So not every dog is going to have an issue with grapes. But certainly some do, so you were right to have him looked at.

Not to downplay this in the slightest, but my first dog also ate huge quantities of grapes from our grape vine, in the years before grape toxicity was 'a thing'. I agree that it must affect some dogs only. Trouble is you don't know if your dog is going to be one of those dogs.

I do wonder how widespread this issue actually is though.
