Vets normally recommend around a week before doing the first vaccination.

Here (Canada), if the breeder doesn't give the first shots before they go home with you, first set of shots is at 8 weeks.

We had Loki booked in to the vet's 4 days after we brought him home. Then his next set 2 weeks after that.

Check with your local vet. I brought Maisie home at 8 weeks, on a Friday, and had her booked in for her first injection on the Monday!

Ours had his first set the day we got him from the breeder. No issue with the vet and he was totally fine with it all.

In NZ you get three rounds. 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks (or thereabouts, a month between jabs really).

Phone your vet and make the appointment for early next week :) . As well as vaccinations, your vet will give your pup a health check, advise on worming treatments and schedules together with flea and tick treatments. Also your vet will be able to microchip Rolo to comply with the law. While at the vets you will also be able to ask about any puppy socialisation they may offer, if not now is a good time to look into trainers offering puppy classes but make sure that they are positive reinforcement trainers registered with the APDT, IMDT or PPG

Judy had her first lot 5 days after getting home. She was fine at the vets at 8 weeks, loved the fuss she got! 2nd lot were 4 weeks later, then inside for an extra week. The sooner you get them done, the sooner she can go out. I found the 5+ weeks quite difficult, she had tonnes of energy but was restricted to my small garden. Hope all goes well with Rolo, would love to cuddle an 8 week puppy again!

Stanley got his the day before we brought him home.

But we took him the day after we got him to get him checked over and poor little mite had a UTI. He was fine, loved the nice vet who fussed him and told him how gorgeous he was.

I'd second taking him ASAP. Our vaccinations were 4 weeks in between then you had to wait 2 weeks after before you could take him out. That was a LONG six weeks of mad puppy.

Storm is now 10 weeks and settled really quickly. I would have had jabs done straight away but had to restart so had to wait a week.

She had her first one last thurs and wasn't bothered at all xx

@Jyssica I would expect your breeder to send Rolo home with detailed information on his health as per the Vet visit she/he will do before he goes home to you. This should give details of his vaccinations, which manufacturer of the vaccinations, signed by your breeder's Vet and a timetable of when his next shots are due and times for any future worming meds as well.

REad your health contract carefully and make sure you understand it before leaving the breeder's. Some here demand you visit the Vet within 3 days for an overall looksee by your own Vet. This could be whether vaccinations are due or not. Failure to comply with the contract may void your guarantee.

You must be so excited and Saturday must seem so far away. Looking forward to Rolo photos. :)

Our breeder did the first vaccinations, but despite checking beforehand it was not compatible with the ones my vet uses - the breeder gave me the wrong name of the vaccination brand :(. We had to wait a week and then Bailey had his first shots again then two weeks after his second and first walk outside on the grass was a week after that! However we booked an appointment for the Monday after we got him (we picked him up on a Thursday) just for a general check and introduce him to the vets. He loves going there by the way, and tries to get out of the car as we pull into a parking space now!

I believe the law now is that it's the breeder's responsibility to microchip the puppies. That's what two vets have recently told me, anyhow.

    It is.

It may be the law but that doesn't mean everyone is aware of it or has complied with it, in the same way that many people do not keep their dogs under control or on leads where they are required. The vet in any case will check that the chip is registering

Hey Snowshoe, I am SO SO excited, it seems so far away and each night im just prepping the house for him, wondering round like a loose end waiting till saturday. Busy few days as im in dublin for work tomorrow so that should waste a few days. Thanks for the heads up on the contract. Our breeder is Assured by the kennel club, I know to many that means very little but She has detailed everything we will recieve with the puppy so I will look over everything. Ive booked Rolo into the vets on Tuesday. He has been microchipped.

I will upload photos of him for all to see :)

    Little setback :(
The puppies from the litter have caught a bug after their vaccines and microchip the breeder says vet advised they stay there another week.
Can't explain how upset I am, as I've said I've been so excited I know it's best for the dogs and it just shows me the breeder is a good one who cares. Just still hard when I've planned everything out in my head!

Oh no, but good for the breeder - the little ones have a tough transition as it is going to their forever homes but to be sick too that's just too much. Know its hard for you but better for the pup :(
