Just stroking Loki when he was laying down and noticed on his underside a red spotty lumpy area above his boy area. Can't say I've noticed it looking that red or lumpy before. Any ideas? Or trip to the vet's?
Good that you are going to the vet's this evening. I have a boy and "that area" is usually dark but not red and certainly not lumpy. Maybe he is allergic to something....food....stuff in the air like pollen,ragweed.....we have a lot of that around here. Keep us posted please?
Sorry Sarah I can't see the photos for some reason ,good to get it checked out properly drop back to let us know what the vets says, good luck ,hope he's isn't too uncomfortable with it x
Hi, My husband took him to the vets and saw the nurse there. He also has the spots in his ears and back of legs so she said it's an allergic reaction to something but they can say for definite what. He's had an antibiotic injection to help stop him getting infected as he probably would as the spots are quite inflamed plus a week's worth of antibiotic tablets and piriton. She said the spots in ears and legs should go by 4 days and the others may take longer as they're bigger. If he was to get this again once its cleared up they would probably test to see what the allergy is.
Poor Loki. Glad you got it taken care of quickly so it will go away quickly. Give him a hug from me!!
Ah bless him, glad you've got him some meds to help, especially his ears, they can really hurt themselves scratching and shaking their heads. Now younonowmits an allergy can you pinpoint anything different he touched or ate that could have been the cause? Hope the inflammation is responding and you can see improvement today x
Not really sure if it's something he ate. Only fresh salmon that he had the other day was new but he'd had canned. He doesn't have much dairy. Sometimes a bit in a kong (nat yog) Wondering if it's the detergent I washed his Vetbed and fleece blanket in?
Update on Loki: The spots in ears and back of legs went in a couple of days however because he keeps scratching the belly area with his back legs, or biting with his teeth, he has scraped the skin raw, it looks awful in that area so took him back to the vet's this afternoon. He's almost finished the antiobiotics but now they've given some hyrdocortisone cream to put on 3 times a day until it's better and also some tablets stronger than piriton to stop the itching as the problem is it's trying to heal but he can't leave the area alone while it's healing. Fingers crossed after a few days of this it will be a lot better
