We still have runny poo! Went back to the vet this morning as Storm had lots of mucous and a little blood again this morning! We are on day 2 of collecting poo so 1 more day to go tomorrow. (We had to restart as the vet had forgotten it was the weekend!) It means that she won't be able to start her puppy classes on Thursday. I'm also not even sure that she is able to go down on the floor now. Was looking forward to meeting other dogs and having a good play on Thursday She is already 12 weeks and worried that the window of socialization is shrinking!
I also have cabin fever! Although I get her out every day for a little socialization trip I'm limited by her bladder. Aarrrrggghhh! Rant over
That is not good! I hope she is feeling better soon I understand the cabin fever and Polo is only 9 weeks and we haven't even had him a week yet, its hard. Your baby will be better soon. (fingers crossed)
I can't give you much advice regarding the poo but what I will say is that Stanley wasn't allowed out until he was 15 weeks for walks. We did puppy classes at 16 weeks and he is the most sociable little thing EVER! Try not to worry, poor little storms health is the most important thing. I'm sure she'll be fine with other dogs etc.
Thanks @JenBainbridge thats reassuring from a socialization point. I have been counting down to this day for weeks.
Does anyone know if I could take her somewhere where there would be no other dogs? I'm guessing it's more that she may be contagious than for her own safety?!
That's really disappointing for you The cabin fever is really bad, I hadn't clocked how irritating it would be, I think because although you're in the house, you're not getting much else done We'll get there in the end though, won't we? Can you invite some friends' dogs over to play who are vaccinated (and nice to puppies)? Truffle is currently back to normal poo, on half chicken and rice and half kibble, so I'm desperately hoping it stays that way as we come off the antibiotics. I hope the poo sample turns up some results and you can get to the bottom of it all. Good luck!
Thanks @Trufflepup. I hate that his is happening to you too but feel reassured that I'm not alone. We can start antibiotics after we collect the poo tomorrow. He doesn't want antibiotics to mess with the poo sample. He said that the antibiotics that he would give would likely treat all but one of the things he thinks it is most likely to be and then once the poo sample results ar in we'all know for sure. Storm has had all her jabs so I'm assuming that she may be a risk to other dogs.
What about a friend 's garden who doesn't have dogs? A really good friend, who doesn't mind too much about her lawn being covered in puppy-splatter (!) (or perhaps to be safe, better make it a passing acquaintance whom you wouldn't mind if you never saw again...) Just to get a visit in.
If it's about parvo, it's the risk to your own puppy, not to other dogs. Parvovirus can live in the ground for many, many months, so you don't want her to come in contact with that until her course of vaccination is complete. There's usually a one- or two-week wait after the final jab before it's fully "taken" and your pup is no longer at risk.
Ask your vet whether parvo is in the area, if he says no, then I would take your pup out to a quiet place where dogs don't go, if you need to put her down for a pee.
@snowbunny she is fully vaccinated from Thursday. Just spoken to a very helpful vet nurse. The risks are that her immune system may already be fighting something so best to keep her in and he risk to other dogs that it is something contagious. In we are until we get the results of the poo sample.
Oh I'm so sorry that Storm is still struggling with his tummy @knees78, it must be difficult for you. Fingers crossed that after your final collections today the results are very quickly back for you and Storm starts to improve quickly.
