Betsy is a week or so off being 6 months. And she is titchy! She is 19inches (reading the tape measure optimistically as standing still is not her strong point). I haven't had her weighed recently, I will do soon though - but I'd be surprised if she is more than 15 - 17 kgs. She still has a fabulously feminine head, and the sweetest face - she is very pretty. But she is titchy! She looks like she is in miniature next to Charlie!
Sounds like Stanley - he was 6 months yesterday and weighs 15.5kg. We should breed them and sell "mini labs". Be worth a fortune
No, not yet. I'm due to go back and visit the breeder (to discuss both Ringcraft and Gundog classes) so I'll find out. The breeder kept two, so I can see how she compares....
Some breeders in Maine breed small labs. They are called "canoe labs"- a hunting dog that can fit in a small boat.
Huh, well, Betsy is supposed to be a normal sized Labrador! Was trying to get a shot of her compared to Charlie - but she's not the best at sitting still.... IMG_2723 by julieandcharlie julieandcharlie, on Flickr
Maybe we should have a "how tall is your puppy?" thread to go alongside the weight one! It would be interesting to see how the average pup changes height over time.
Xena is the same age and 17 kgs. The trainer at obedience last night even remarked that she's a nice, small size. I don't have any other lab pups around to compare, but she's almost as tall as many adult labs we come across on walks (NZ labs are stocky, not tall). I've really got to pull out the measuring tape.
The New Zealand breed standard is almost identical to the UK breed standard - the heights are the same, and the description of the overall build is the same. They should be strongly built, but I do not think that means stocky.
Although Xena being a 'nice small size' doesn't mean she isn't around breed standard height. I think breed standard height is a 'nice small size'. Just Betsy is no way going to make it....
Molly is much the same age. We had a vet visit today so, apart from some of the things they were going to do, they also weighed her. I've checked her height in the past few days - a little over 25 ins and vets weighed her at 20.2 kilos today - she is far from podgy. Was hoping for a smaller lab, her dad was quite small compared to her mum, and she was not that big. Still wondering about all those steroids
No! Really? I think you've got the height measurement wrong, or the weight.... You measure from the floor to the top of the shoulder blades - what would be the withers on a horse....
Moo is just over 19 inches and her fighting weight was 23 kg. She's a bit fatter these days now shes a old lady. But she is tiny it's never been a problem as she just feels other labs are just too big. I've never minded its easier to carry home a pocket lab if they are injured and now she's old its easier lift in and out of a car. She's just tiddy
It's not a problem - so long as she is healthy, it's fine. But was toying with the idea of showing her. I think her back is a bit long, and she is a bit straight front and back anyway. Still....
Kona was about the same height and weight (around 18). When she was 6 months old we met a 1y old male labrador, who was 32 kg, and she was really small compared to him. She is 13 and a half month old now and weights 28 kg, 53,5-54 cm tall. Still, everyone thinks she is still a puppy. She is a lot smaller than most of the labs we meet, but will be in the standard when full grown. Maybe her growth chat is a bit different, give her time
