Lots of fireworks near us tonight. For the first time Stanley's looked unsure and went to sit in his crate. I've been a bad mam and given him a "naughty tea" to make him feel better. A tuna and cheese Kong seems to have cheered him up and he's ignoring them now
Coco had his first lamb bone tonight (as well as his dinner - eek!)- just went to the supermarket and they had them packed up in 2's - 30 pence! He loved it. The vet bed he was on as he ate it is now in the wash...The second one will be useful tomorrow if the fireworks are too much - but I think he'll be fine.
I think Xena is a human poo-eating dog. I know she doesn't touch dog poo, and it was too big to be cat poo, so it had to be human Just ugh, I don't want to have to worry about her scavenging poo on walks, or is this something to just accept? I don't want her to join the forum hall of fame of human poo eaters
You certainly don't need to accept it. I am determined Betsy is never eating poo because I absolutely could not bear it. She is never far enough away from me on walks so I couldn't stop her. And train leave it and a whiplash turn away from food.
She wasn't even far away from me, just a few metres. She was head down in the long grass having what I thought was a sniff. I walk up and SURPRISE, poo. She was so good today too, loads of check ins, I had her in what I thought was an acceptable zone of control. It's just hard when you can't tell what's a sniff and what's a forage.
Ok, fireworks going off in earnest all over the neighbourhood and Xena hasn't reacted at all. Thank goodness for small mercies.
I'm still struggling with Ripple's poo eating (other dogs), just when I think I've got it under control it all starts up again. Thursday I let him off the lead and he normally waits for a treat and to be released, but as soon as I let him off he was gone. Obviously there was some super poo about! He wouldn't come back at all so I just ran off in the opposite direction and luckily he came pelting after me. So that was it, back on the lead for the rest of the walk. I don't really know where to go from here - the lure of poo seems all too great .
It depends how much effort you want to put in and how much you care. You can have her walking to heel when off lead - she doesn't have to be allowed to forage around if there is a risk of poo and she is a poo eater. When Betsy first went off lead, I walked her on a narrow path and I had a friend with me, and we'd check for poo in front of her and then lure her passed, and we were ready to stop her if she approached poo. I cared that much about it.
Stanley has a partiality for for cow poo and sheep poo, so if we're in the countryside I tend to keep him on a lead. You have to round here anyway incase of sheep etc. Sometimes when we're on a normal walk he eats rabbit poo, I'm not too bothered about that. Human poo though I'd DIE! Why is there human poo out and about anyway. Who does that?!
Ella has only eaten human poo once. There was an unfortunate incident with a nappy change, escaping poo landing on my feet, an open baby gate and a hungry lab I'm still not sure if it's better or worse that I knew who it came from. Ella says she was keeping it within the family
Boris used to like eating, cow, sheep, rabbit poo, he would also eat acorns, this acorn season he has not tried to eat them.. I have managed to train him to leave them. Some times he will try and creep back to horse poo. I walked through fields with sheep and Boris on long line, this help get him used to sheep and also I could stop him eating sheep droppings. Human poo is another matter. I walk the Tarka trial and every so often he disappears into the bushes and reappears with you know what on his lips. If I see what he is doing and tell him to leave he will come away. I want signs up along with the dog signs saying ' will ALL users of The Tarka Trial carry and use a poo bag'
My random thought for the day. When you have Labradors and you're making chilli pepper jam, you spend the boiling time skimming dog hairs from the surface
Stanley has hit the age of destruction. 2 toys and my doorstop this morning. At least it's not my skirting boards.. Yet
Mixed feelings - as always. Really pleased he's made it to school, as there was quite a bit of doubt over that. But, of course, we'll miss this big, gorgeous, clever, gentle giant xx ...
