We've been on Pet Plan with Holly and our previous dog, Cocoa. Co had some hip problems, required an op and was on permanent medication for years. We had no issues from the insurers.
We're with Argos Platinum. Our pet plan quote was really high - £35 per month for their lowest cover. We've never had to make a claim so far but my auntie is with them & she has a bulldog. She's had 2 nose jobs and has severe epilepsy and they've always paid. So fingers crossed should the worst happen - which hopefully it won't.
Something I read (but can't remember where!) said that whilst pet plan had higher fees in the first years, their premium increases were less year on year than cheaper plans (like tesco). But I don't know if that's true. It's not like car insurance or anything, where you can change each year and get the cheapest deal. I guess once your pup has any kind of condition, you can't switch because it's then a pre existing condition?
That's right. Not like car insurance, but a bit like house insurance. If your house suffers something like subsidence you can't really ever switch insurers. Premiums do increase year on year, as the dog gets older, the risk increases. For Charlie, with pet plan, the premiums have never increased more than the average for Chocolate Labradors of his age, despite me claiming thousands. Although the T&Cs are such that they could put the premiums up to whatever they want if they decided to do so - something worth considering when you take lifetime insurance.
Our insurance (Argos Platinum) stayed reasonable stable but there was an automatic hike up when she turned 5yo.
That's about £10 more a month as I pay to insure 4 year old Charlie. If my premiums are only £10 a month more in a decades time, I'd think that a bargain.
I don't mind really it's just a but of a shock. I've never really claimed for her either which is good. She looks like she might be trying to live a good bit longer so who knows I'll be paying out. She seems to be having something sort of resurgence of Mooness. She seems to feel really good.
Well she's deaf and a bit blind but she can still located things like sick and rotten fish really quickly. I just glad she seems so happy again
I don't think deafness and blindness really bother our pups as much as they bother us. Brogan just got on with it, even enjoyed being deaf as it meant no more fireworks/gunshot fears and if he didn't want to "listen" to me, he just turned his head. And he was sniffing out steps to deal with the fading eyesight. Our old pups are marvels! Long live Moo!
We lost her life long companion in March. It affected her deeply. She got depressed and became ill around July time and is just now getting back to being a happy dog. I was very worried about her she just didn't sparkle anymore. Now all the silliness and bossiness is back and it really hit me what had been missing. She really is a fun little dog who thinks she's as big as king kong .
