Hi, Late Sunday evening I was about to go out with Finn and was standing in the hallway. Suddenly Finn jumped up, cried and shook his head. I told him not to be a whimp for I didn't know what was wrong. When I put on his harness I saw a wasp, laying on the carpet, almost dead. Then I knew that Finn must have been stung by the wasp!....so far so good. I stayed up to see if nothing happened to him, for I didn't know that if he was allergic , and if so, where he was stung and if he didn't get an allergic reaction. I went to bed late that night. On Monday after the dogwalker he came home and was limping. The dog walker hadn't see him limping. He is now licking his left paw, limping on it. I can't find anything wrong, no infection no redness not swollen. I think that that is the spot where he got stung....can't find the actual sting... My question is, what can I do more then just wait and see?
I think if he was going to get an allergic reaction, it would have happened within minutes of being stung. The limping may well be nothing to do with the sting. Molly was stung a few times around her bum a week or so ago and apart from the initial shock and pain of the actual stings, was fine. I was stung yesterday on my neck, under my chin, the wretched thing got caught on my scarf and by the time I was able to pull the scarf off, it had got me Still a bit sore and tingly this morning. I hope Finn is OK but obviously if you're really worried you should check with your vet.
Oh no! I hope you'll soon be okay! My father was allergic to wasps, so he did have a epi pen with him. When he got stung he could give himself a injection right after being stung. I am afraid that the wasp left its stung into the paw of Finn. Can't see it though...but he is very uncomfortable.
Yes, I suppose its possible if you found the wasp dying that it did leave the sting in Finn's paw. Knowing how it feels with the sting on my neck, I guess it could be mighty uncomfortable if he's got to constantly put pressure on the area. Poor boy, might it help to soak his paw in a bowl of warm salted water do you think?
I gave Finn Carprodyl and soaked his paw in warm salty water. It seems that more paws bothers him. He doesn't want to go out, don't want to pee or poo.... when it hasn't change by tomorrow I think a visit to the vet will be appropriate! He is now vast asleep after taking his pain pill!
I know, but sometimes a wasp leaves it behind when dying....this wasp was dying. This morning at first I thought he still was in pain. But during our walk he started to run and was happy! This afternoon he is limping again, feeling miserable. I still can't find what the problem is! It is not red, swollen or extra warm.... he still licks his paw. I hope that in time it will subside like I thought this morning!
Well I hope Finn is OK soon poor little fella. As for my neck, had to go to the doc this morning its got so sore and swollen, I look as if I've got double chins, tripled - apparently an allergic reaction. That will teach me to be so dismissive of wasps stings
Oh no! Poor you! I know it can be very painful. A few years ago I was stung by a wasp. It was just that one time. It burned like h.... I hope you feel ok soon! When Finn got that stung I waited more then a hour before going to bed, in case he had an allergic reaction. He had once an allergic reaction and was totally swollen after a bee sting! But this time alle went well. I am under the impression that he is slightly recovering....
Our first Lab, Ginger, got stung many times one day when we were hiking and she came across a yellow jacket nest in the middle of the trail. They stung her on the nose and ears mostly, so much that she just stopped where she was, confused about where they were coming from I guess. My wife grabbed her by the collar, pulled her away from the nest and literally wiped the yellow jackets off with her hands. She got a couple of stings, but Ginger must have gotten 10 or 20. There was a lot of local swelling, but no allergic reaction. It did not seem to bother her all that much, but it took several days for the swelling to go down. Benadryl would help, but I don't recall if we used it at the time. All of our Labs have chased and bitten yellow jackets occasionally. I don't think they typically get stung when they bite one.
