Hi All I am just very curious and thought I would ask, I see lots of people posting questions about certain behaviors they experience and they will say like there dog is 16 months etc. Rolo is 5 months and generally good on the lead, not too excitable when we have guests and quite chilled most of the time.... I think with us not having kids that helps as were quite a chilled house. Can the fabric and temperament change drastically as they grow?
Well, I have very limited experience with Ella being my first dog and she's only 19 months old! I will say that I have seen fluctuations in behaviours but her general personality traits have remained the same. For example, she's generally been a calm, relaxed and pretty confident girl at home but a very excitable pup out of the house around other people and dogs. Whilst we've worked on some things and we've had ups and downs, she's generally still the same. She's even calmer at home now and we're starting to get some of the excitement out and about under control. My guess is that Rolo's main personality traits should remain the same now (barring any major changes in structure, routine or an unplanned event)
I'm always so jealous when people describe their dogs as chilled! Stanley is buzzing alllllll the time. Always on the go or sat on top of me staring at me. I'm hoping his personality might change and him get more chilled

Yeah he can become excited when he sees other dogs andpeople he realllly wants them to stroke him but im working on that but in the house generally hes relaxed Glad to hear you think main traits will stay i hope so. @JenBainbridge ahhh my cousin has a black lab and spaniel cross and he reminds me of Stanley! Hes always sooooo full of energy too! Do you have kids? Just curious as to any little things which may effect excitable pups ha x
I think it depends on an awful lot. It depends what the dog experiences - both in terms of good and bad experiences and in terms of whether they experience new and different things. If you met Charlie in his day to day life - doing what he does most days - you'd think he was a lively but reasonably well behaved dog. Expose him to a gundog training day with dummy launchers though and he'd present as a crazed whirling banshee that had never had a minute's training in his life. I think he was always an excitable dog, but his life experiences exaggerated that (he spent a long time being isolated from all exciting things when he was a teenager and on rest after surgery) and he goes to a lot of different places, some of which he can cope with calmly, some of which he can't. It's a big mix of his basic make up, what he has experienced so far that has had a long term impact, and what he gets to do.
Nope, Stanley is our only child for the foreseeable future. Although I think we do fuss him a lot and play with him and I definitely rile him up a bit when I get home cos I've missed him. He's just a full of life puppy
Well Molly is far from chilled. Her temperament is totally different to that of our previous lab, a black dog. He was a chilled dog from puppyhood but then he grew up with another dog and interacted with him as much as he did with us. Molly is an only dog and demands almost constant attention. Only time she stops is when she's asleep. I can't say I've noticed a huge change is her, she's now 7 months, just becoming a bit more coordinated and her attention span is increasing. Just as prone to cracker-doggedness though now as she was at 11 weeks
