    Hi All,

Rolo is generally a fab puppy - He loves to play ball in the garden with my OH and we take him on walks every day after work - He is with people most days, generally left in the house 1 day a week but let out frequently. Fed etc.

He is a happy pup, waggs his tail plays and likes a cuddle... But of an evening when it comes to settle down with us - He isnt very consistent with what he likes. Sometimes he will cuddle next to my OH's feet, other times he will NOT settle unless I put him in his crate then he falls right asleep - sometimes this is like 7pm and then he stays down for the night being let out about 11pm for final pee's. The thing is I feel really mean like Hes not happy and we have put him in his crate in the other room all alone...Am i safe to say if he doesnt cry etc he is generally fine and its just me wanting him to be with us haha...

Stanley is exactly the same. If it was up to him he would never settle and run riot all the time.

I'm the same as you, felt tight putting him in his crate in the kitchen. So at about 8pm it's settle time. Before this we play a bit, do some training and then his lead goes on. He has a nice fluffy mat in the living room or he's allowed on the couch. He sometimes gets a rawhide or just treats for settling. And everytime he tries to run riot we just guide him back to his mat then treats when he calms down.

He's getting much better - after one or two attempts he generally gives up now and settles ;)

Consistency will come as he gets older. Then he'll snooze all evening and sleep all night :)

Thanks guys I thought so... I think its that he generally likes his crate too! He knows its for sleepy time!

I thought it was just me worrying but its nice to hear otherwise!

Maybe for puppies it's no different than with toddlers...they need putting in their cot early evening to sleep. Soon Rolo will just settle by your feet every evening and you'll feel better but essentially he'll still be sleeping. He sounds a happy puppy.

Titan is the same way! I was worried also. I feel like the meanest dog mom ever putting him to bed at 8pm. But he just can't settle yet and then he gets overtired and CRAZY. Once we put him to bed he sleeps allllll night long. And he never cries when we put him in there, he curls up with his little puppy on his bed and falls right to sleep. Hopefully doing the right thing!

Do you get him up for a wee when you go to bed or does he go right through? I still make Libby go out at 10 but no idea if I need to or not!

@DebzC I don't, but the very odd time I do have to get up around 3 to let him out. Most nights he goes right through to about 6am.

@DebzC Hi Debz , I put him out for a wee when we go to bed... sometimes between 10-11 I think it would make them more comfortable for the rest of the night

That is what drives me mad with puppies, they want to play in the evening when I want to sit down, but fortunately, once they get to 6 months they settle after their evening meal and sleep.

Yes, I always take mine out for a wee just before I got to bed :)
