Corona. Again. She was up at 2am with diarrhea with mucous. She has had a mucousy green eye on and off since I picked her up at daycare on Wednesday. I thought maybe she got a scratch during playtime or maybe some dirt in there. It's not any better. And now this morning I wake up to her scratching her ear and crying. Upon looking, it stinks and is red. And she continues to shake her head. Today was to be the last day on her tummy meds. I can't go medicine free for more than one week. I was in the process of (very slowly) switching her from the GI food,(chicken based) that we suspect she could be allergic to, to a lamb and rice (with no added junk in it) and now all this. She was scratching before the switch but at least her poop was normal. I do not know what to do. I know the vet will try and convince me to stay on a very expensive hypoallergenic food or at the very least, the GI food but she has no change on the first and the second is suspect. The vets don't buy the chicken allergy/intolerance at all. So another night of minimal sleep and the worry and investigating continues:(

So sorry you're having a rough time of it!

I'd definitely try a second opinion and see if you get anywhere x

You poor thing. Charlie was like this as a puppy, and it's totally exhausting.

I'd get her tummy settled though, and if that means switching back to the hypoallergenic food, then do it. You can get ones without chicken in them if you prefer. Try duck and tapioca SC21 from Royal Canin. I switched Charlie to this, and he is still on it now!

I also had eye and ear problems with Charlie. Even though he very definitely is intolerant of mass produced chicken, I do not believe food contributed to this.

Thanks everyone. It turns out that I haven't given Corona's tummy enough time to heal before attempting the food switch. I was gettting to the bottom of the bag and was hoping to avoid the purchase of another bag. I will stick with the GI over the holidays and hope that her poop returns to normal. I just want her eating a somewhat normal diet so bad. She does have an infection in both eyes that the vet said she could have gotten anywhere as it's very contagious. (Maybe that's why MY eye has been crusty the last 2 mornings?). She also has a mild ear infection but the vet thinks it's the same one from a few weeks ago that never went away. Come to find out that I was not given the proper instructions for treatment from the technician and they apologized for that. I will hold off on second opinions for now as there are currently 3 different vets consulting each other regarding her care already. As frustrating as this all is, I do feel like it has to get better soon right? I will blame my impatience for Corona's tummy setback on myself and hope the eye and ear infections will heal quickly and properly this time.

I know it will seem difficult right now. Poor Charlie had terrible ear troubles as a pup (completely cleared up by a specialist dermatologist in the end), tummy troubles, eye troubles....and then two ruptured cruciate ligaments! The rest paled compared to that.....

I never thought it would end. It did though, and he's happy and healthy now.

It's just the luck of the draw, I'm afraid. Betsy hasn't had a thing wrong with her (apart from a strange pimple on her eyelid that disappeared as soon as it arrived) since the day she came home!

Oh dear sending you big hugs, it is so difficult when they have health issues. I was constantly at the vets with Mabel they even knew the sound of my voice when I would phone for yet another appointment. Fingers crossed things clear up soon and you can begin to enjoy Corona.

Oh ya, they definitely know my voice on the phone also! I feel like I'm becoming great friends with the vets! And don't get me wrong, despite all of her issues, she still makes us laugh every day, drives us crazy at times with her puppy antics and is smart as a whip. And the best part of all, she is a fantastic cuddler! :)

You just never know, they are all so different. Our first lab had no health issues per say, although she did have a ruptured cruciate when she was 5 and you are right, none of this compares to that. Our second lab, unfortunately was born with a rare heart defect, that we found out about at 5 months old, requiring a pace maker and had to be put down at 11 months when none of the meds were working, causing her to suffer cardiac arrest in front of my kids. We were devastated and swore off ever getting another dog. Took us (mainly me) 10 years to agree to another dog. Well intentioned family and friends tease that I have crappy luck with dogs, now that Corona has so much going on. Even the vets apologize sometimes when they pick up on my frustration. After the last dog, what were the odds that I would get one that wasn't healthy?? Nothing could possibly be that bad, right? Well it's not that bad, not even close, I have to keep remembering that. It's always worst when you are living it, I look forward to saying "remember all the issues Corona HAD as a pup?" Until then, what choice do I have, she's a member of the family already.

No, it's not as bad as getting them through a cruciate op etc. or even worse in the case of your second dog. :(

But it's still very tiring, and it sucks your energy. :( I'm sure it's just puppy stuff though, you'll get her tummy settled, and get into a routine with ears and eyes and then all will be well. :)

I can totally sympathise with you. We had so many issues with Harleys tummy for over 5/6 months. It worked about she is wheat intolerant and possibly other grains. She is now on a barf diet (natures menu frozen blocks) and a very sensitive kibble as well as different fish.
On top of that she ended up on a drip as she was dehydrated, had conjunctivitis, sprained a muscle, had frozen tail twice and the list goes on. She had an emergency spay at 1 years old due to pyometra. Since then we have had a few cut paws and a pulled muscle. She is now 3 and I can't remember when we went to the vets last. It will get better.
