    Me again!

So my puppy's breeder is currently feeding the litter on 'Pedigree' dry puppy food. They're nearly 6 weeks old. I'm not impressed by the brand but I can't stop him choosing that and he says he uses it for all the litters in the past. Fair do's I guess. When she arrives home I want to feed her on something different (which is actaully yet to be decided) but do I need to gradually introduce it and but a a Pedigree food bag and slowly add bits of my chosen food or shall I go straight into the new one?
Thanks again! Also, any suggestions on puppy food?

The general advice is that you should stick to the food your puppy comes home with for a couple of weeks, until they have properly settled in. The breeder will normally give you a bag or a voucher for the value of a bag. Once this is finished, if you want to change, you should go do slowly, over a week to ten days.

I wasn't fortunate enough to have that information when I got Stryker but he was a gift to help me get over the loss of my best friend, Dozer.

I went right to the feed store and got a sample pack of Blue Wilderness. He ate half in the morning and half at dinner time but I put a little bit of rice in it to help cut back on the diarrhea. It worked pretty good so after buying a bigger bag and slowly decreased the amount of rice. By day 7 he was no longer getting rice and was on that brand purely.

Same went for his shots. Again wasn't sure if he had any shots so at 10 weeks he was given his first set again (the breeder said they gave first shots but wouldn't awnser any questions regarding Stryker). Roughly every 3 weeks he got another set until all were given.

Same with heart worm and a few medications due to having worms and a few parasites.

I had lots of foster puppies come into my house with absolutely no food coming with them. I started them right away on what my own dogs were eating (BARF/raw/home cooked). Some got a bit of upset tummy, most didn't.

I'm very anti-manufactured dog food so I'm coming at this question with a real bias, so take my input with a grain of salt (with a bit of kibble? ;) ). However, Pedigree is pretty bad, even among manufactured dog food. I'd chuck it out and move on to something better as soon as possible.

The recommended way is as Snowbunny says.
My girl didn't come with any food and I wasn't told what they were being fed. I brought a good quality kibble an started her on this from day 1. I don't know if it was because I done this, but my girl have severe tummy problems and we spent nearly 6 months back and forth to the vets.
I have had foster rescue dogs and have put them on the same diet as my girl and they have been fine (but they have been aged 10 months-3 years old).

Yeah I agree! I think he's just stuck in his ways. I'll move her straight onto something more natural. Thankyou x

We kept Bailey on the food from his breeder for a few weeks, then tried various other ones finally settling on Taste of the Wild. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive one but seemingly a good one - Bailey eats it! I am considering feeding raw but still undecided as of today, and the OH is against it for some reason that I can't fathom
