Hello, my family will be picking up our femaletter labrador puppy next week. Trying to prepare for her arrival. A bit confused on what crate is best to get and have been reading various articles on website.

Welcome to you from Mags, Tatze and Mollie :hi:

Tatze is my pet dog, a black Lab three years old. Mollie is my fourth Guide Dog puppy, a black Lab and she's fourteen weeks old.

Crate - wise, it depends what you want to do. I have a small puppy pen with a plastic bed and space out of the bed to wee if needed when they are tiny, just because I like my sleep lol. After a week or so the pup doesn't need to wee in the night and then I make the whole pen their bed.

Here is some great advice - http://www.thelabradorsite.com/crate-training-your-labrador-puppy/

This is my early set up and now (she's 14 weeks now)

Welcome Michelle from me, Hattie 9 years and our rescue boy Charlie 6 years. Have you bought Pippa's Happy Puppy Handbook? Lots of great advise in it on how to get started with puppy stuff. Good luck with your puppy, what are you going to call her? xx :)

Hello, welcome and congratulations! It would be hard to improve on Mags' set up (in photos above with Marvellous Miss Mollie).

I love Ireland and Kilkenny is a lovely place so I hope you'll share lots of photos of your new pup with some of that famous green scenery. :)

My daughter has 'decided' that we are going to call her Lily, which I think is a nice name. Will have to wait until we get her home though and see if it fits.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't gotten the Happy Puppy Book. My brother who is on his second Nova Scotia Duck Troller Retriever has recommended another book which I've ordered and am waiting for it to arrive. He has been my info source till now and has been really recommending a hard plastic crate versus a metal one. I think it might be because he uses it his for long distance road trips, which we wouldn't necessarily be doing. Still since his has been my source up to this point, I'm tending to follow his advice. Another point is that while a 36" crate could fit in our car, a 42" wouldn't.

Hello from Coco & me. I don't really know about crates & pups but have a feeling a Lab puppy might find a plastic crate irresistible to chew.
