    Sorry about the details! :eek::D

It goes like this, we were fairly certain that Bramble was close to her first season just before Christmas. She had matured, got clingy, and had an accident in the lounge. Christmas Eve day her lady bits looked puffy...a few days after I noticed spots of blood on the kitchen floor. Checked her vulva with tissue, yup she was bleeding.

Well that was almost 2 weeks ago. She should now be well into her fertile phase, but this is what is confusing me, her vulva is now back to normal, it was hardly what I call "swollen" anyhow. Apart from the initial spots of blood there has been nothing. Likewise her behaviour, no flagging or flirting. I do wonder if we are a week out somehow....or is this a silent season? Not that we are taking ANY chances!!:D:D

I have A LOT of sympathy with these thoughts - and it's not out of line with what I've read and maybe (possibly, I don't really know....) experiencing.

If you ask Charlie, Betsy is in season or very close to it. But there are NO visible signs at all.

I've read that when people say their bitch didn't have her first season until 14/18 months that's unlikely and it's just the first season was such a non event they missed it!

It is only clear Bramble is in season because we are so vigilant and have really been on the look out. I can see how easily this could be missed!

Harley's vulva didn't hardly swell either. The only way we knew she was in season was because I put a white sheet on the bottom of our bed and one on the sofa in the front room and we seen spots of blood when she slept. When she was awake we very rarely seen any blood as she kept herself so clean.
We bumped into a few dogs when we were on walks (on lead on the streets) and she didn't show any interest either.

That's interesting - it's three years since I experienced a dog in season so I'll keep this possibility in mind for Mollie.

Here we go again, definitely part 2 of her season! Evident from the fact caspers nose is glued to her bottom, and err her lady bits have puffed up again..plus she is definitely bleeding again. This season malarkey is turning into a real headache....

    Buckle up, you two!!

No, it's not that bad. Just assume she IS in season and you can't go far wrong.

Are there any other signs to know when the season/fertile is over? (Apart from swelling and her parting her tail to one side). Asking as Vanilla started hers just before Christmas and everything I read is about 4weeks. We are now in 5th week, moving into 6th and she still seems fertile...

    Thanks

That would be very unusual. Male dogs may still find her interesting, but that does not mean she's necessarily fertile.

Thanks, but pressume if she still parts her tail she is? We still have her on a lead, as we don't want an accident.

Same here. Her bleeding was for 3weeks and not the 'advertised' 3 weeks.... awell see how we go when she meets some male. Short lead and question of other owner before any encounter of the dog kind.

Might be worth checking with your vet, at least give them a call. Love the name Vanilla, by the way!

Thanks, yes she is a yellow lab.
Have spoke to the Vet when her bleeding did not stop at the supposedly 2weeks. She had no concerns, unless it carried on into a 4th week. I have to take a trip down there to drop of some forms for insurance, so will ask at the same time.

Cripes! Walking Bramble in our safe, secure paddock... The adjacent farm owns an agility arena, they also have 5 dogs, very well behaved.. Not tonight, all I could hear was yelling ( from the owners..) and howling from the dogs... Just managed to get Brambles lead on, then yelled myself as my arm was felt like it was torn from it's socket!...

I remember years ago when Hattie was in season, good grief I was in a field all on my own with Hattie on lead, then out of nowhere appeared two Border Collies that circled us like crazy their eyes wide with a wild, wanting look in them whilst trying to mount her. I fended them off until the farmer caught up, eventually, which seemed like an eternity, Very scary especially as I don't like Border Collies at all. Those boys will find your girl no matter what  Good luck xx

Dougs breeder locked Doug's mum Bella in the house when she was in season. When he came home 2 dogs had broken in his garden and had nearly dug and chewed through his patio doors to get to her.big plastic heavy :eek:duty doors
